  1. Kenny Barron & Dave Holland - The Art of Conversation (Impulse) Enjoyed this so much that I played it twice.
  2. Kenny Burrell - 12-15-78 (32 Jazz)
  3. Kenny Burrell - Recapitulation (Chess) Excellent 2-LP overview of Burrell's Argo / Cadet sides, recorded between 1959 and 1967.
  4. Earlier this afternoon (prompted by Brad's recent post): So good.
  5. James Moody - Moods (Up Front) Reissue of an LP originally released as Running the Gamut (Scepter, 1965); with Thad Jones (tr), Patti Bown (p), Reggie Workman (b), Tootie Heath (d), and Marie Volpee (vo).
  6. Kai Winding & J.J. Johnson - The Great Kai & J.J. (Impulse)
  7. Junior Cook - Pressure Cooker (Affinity)
  8. Gil Fuller, James Moody & the Monterey Jazz Festival Orchestra - Night Flight (Pacific Jazz)
  9. Cal Tjader with Strings: Last Night When We Were Young (Fantasy, 1975) Earlier tonight: James Moody - Moody's Mood (Chess)
  10. A great band and a superb record -- one of Farmer's very best, IMO.
  11. More Elvin: Elvin Jones - Coalition (Blue Note, 1970)
  12. Elvin Jones - Time Capsule (Vanguard) Jones featured a bevy of saxophone heavies on most of his albums in the Seventies. This one includes Frank Foster, George Coleman, Frank Wess, and fellow Vanguard label-mate Bunky Green.
  13. Frank Foster - Leo Rising (Arabesque)
  14. Harry "Sweets" Edison - Just Friends (Black & Blue) Sweets and Jaws always sound good together.
  15. Roy Eldridge & Dizzy Gillespie - Roy and Diz (Verve, 1954) with Oscar Peterson, Herb Ellis, Ray Brown & Louie Bellson
  16. No electric piano on this one. Lots of heavy bari-playing tho'!
  17. When I contacted the seller and complained about the condition of the LPs, he immediately offered to refund two-thirds of the price I'd originally paid. So I decided to keep the album rather than return it. I guess he didn't want to bother with returns process either. Oh well. I'm fine with the mediocre-condition vinyl at the lower price.
  18. That may be so. I'd be disappointed if Jones always played electric piano. But, since he didn't, I don't mind hearing it occasionally. Just my take, of course!
  19. NP -- prompted by soulpope's Byas post above: Don Byas - A Night in Tunisia (Black Lion)
  20. Prime KB! Cal Tjader - Breathe Easy (Galaxy, 1978) with Hank Jones, Monty Budwig, and Shelly Manne Given the suggestive (porn-like? porn-y? porno-esque?) cover photo, you might reasonably expect equally suggestive wocka-wocka guitars and funky electric basses. But no. It's just a chilled-out, straight-ahead session of jazz standards. One "Hey, it's the 1970's!" aspect of the LP: Hank Jones mostly sticks to electric piano -- which isn't an issue for me, although it might be a source of frustration for others.
