FALLOUT2. It was fun cruising around the desert with my "friends," Myron, Vic, the sharpshooter from the tavern near that cleaned up town (forgot his name.) Oh yes, Marcus with his machine gun. Never figured out how to finish the game though. Couldn't rescue the tribespeople. Couldn't get through some doors, I think. Anyone know how to do it? I just love the action points feature. It enables us to really plan out our moves. Works better than realtime.

I did give it another listen today and have revised my opinion somewhat. Green plays a bit more than mere cliches, but it's still not vintage Grant Green playing. Actually, the hornmen aren't bad either. But again, Big John takes it to another level! I still rate it 4 stars. No better than that, but not a bad rating.

It wasn't a sequel at all. It was game called something like, FALLOUT TACTICS or something of the sort. I did play a demo and did not care for it. It was set up where there was a series of prearranged skirmishes and you had to tactically position your men to take them out. The character were preformed, and there was no story line. I believe the orginal FALLOUT creators have been spread around the pc gaming industry working for different companies. There will never likely be a followup to FALLOUT. Anyone into AGE OF EMPIRES and its sequels?

Where do you play online? Do you just play at home with a LAN setup, or do you go to some particular gaming site? I've never played DIABLO on multiplayer mode. Singleplayer mode is pretty dull after you've gone through it once. I keep dreaming about a sequel to FALLOUT...

What vendetta? You suggest they had been fighting each other in the past, which I doubt would be the case. I don't like to see Jim and Kevin going at it either, but don't expect a board moderator to jump in right away. Sometimes people need to get things off their chests or just clear the air about things. Let's not blow this up beyond what it is. I'm sure both of them will work things out. Haven't you ever lost your temper online, pepe?

I should also add that I love Miles Davis. There are some songs (which I can't name off right away) where he comes out with the annoying screetching sound, but I dig the guy's music for sure.

Good one Peter! Forgot to mention vocalese. Could definitely do without it in jazz. I don't mind the soprano sax at all. Don't you like Coltrane's "My Favorite Things," Moose? The more contemporary Joe Ford plays decent soprano. Someone also mentioned the use of flute for solo purposes. That's very perceptive. I share that opinion. Flutes are fine in general but don't lend themselves well in jazz solos.

Gack! I cannot! I don't know anything about this stuff. Any object stuck into the bell which then makes it give out the awful screeeeching sound! I often have to rush to my sound volume and turn the music down.

Are there any musical instruments that you don't care to hear in jazz? I can't personally think of any, but I do have a healthy dislike for muted trumpets. Apologies to Miles and all that, but the muted trumpet irritates my inner ear and I react as I would to someone dragging their finger nails across a blackboard. I do love the trumpet very much, and it's even one of my favorite instruments; but get that plunger out of the bell!

I know others have mentioned this session before. I recently got a burn from B-3er and have been listening to it. They play at least three tunes from "Got a Good thing Goin'" but this is later (1968) work. The horns sound a bit ordinary. Grant is long past his prime and is pretty much reduced to playing cliches; although, Grant Green cliches are often better than most other guitarists! He comes alive a little for "Cantaloupe Woman," but it's clear and sad to see how the great man had declined. It's Big John Patton who burns. This is Patton in his prime. He burns and rescues this date bigtime. I'd rate it as a good 4-star (out of 5) soul-jazz album. No better, but also no worse.

I didn't find DIABLO held up on replay value at all. FALLOUT however remains engrossing even through multiple replays. I've been hacking my way through the baddies in DUNGEON SIEGE lately. I work on it every week or so. My son got the sequel LEGENDS OF ARIANNA for X-mas. He's gone through it already. Much superior to DIABLO, I think, but it has borrowed heavily from it. My favorite game of all-time remains FALLOUT. Wish they would do another sequel.

Gotta check out that Reuben Wilson on AMG. Haven't heard of it...

I've grown to love listening to the electric piano. My favorite would be George Cables. He's terrific on those Art Blakey sessions in particular. He played the instrument as if it were his first as opposed to others who treated it as a second instrument.

Oh yeah, silly me. I just knew that someone else came from that State besides Ghost.

I did own "Iska" once but didn't keep it. I do remember some beautiful playing, but the style seemed too dated. It just wasn't my thing, but then my tastes in jazz are more narrow and shallow than Jim's. (No irony meant there, despite the winkie; I hold no pretences as far as being a great judge of jazz or music in general.)
