What's your porn star name?
connoisseur series500 replied to Peter Johnson's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
If the pet had a feminine name then this would be even funnier! -
Szwed totally knocks it out of the park. Easily one of the best jazz biographies I've ever read, and one of the best written ones too (I can't stress this last observation about his writing enough). Don't put this off, Dan -- you'll be kickin' yourself for not having read it earlier. I read about half of this book while standing (or sitting) at the bookshop! He's got another one out now on Coltrane and "Love Supreme."

Sorry Sonny, but neither "MAD's Cradle to Grave Primer", "Politically MAD" or "MAD Clobbers the Classics" were ever released in hardback form --- so you've basically got a bunch of worthless, inane scribbling on your hands! Definitely ESSENTIALS, Weizy. Obviously, I've got to sneak a few paperbacks into my bookshelves!

Three, two, one...

Enjoy your posts too, Ubu! -
The only other cd I have with them both is "Something Personal," which I like very much. I suppose that just about everyone has that cd.

Sonny Stitt, "Live at the Left Bank"

Thanks for your help on that Jim. I'm just glad this was recorded, home recorder or not; and I certainly agree that it sounds better and better the more I listen. -
I'm pretty sure we're all in agreement on that.

I give you credit for still supporting your team, SS. All my friends at the office here in Ohio who are Browns fans tell me they've lost all interest in the football season with the Brown's record being what it is. BTW, My prediction is that William Green will never play another game in a Brown's uniform.

This cd just blows me away! I love it. Don Patterson on organ and Billy James on drums. I've got a few questions: first what the hell is an electric saxophone?? Is this an electric alto? How many other well-known recordings are there with sax players using a similar instrument? Joel Dorn says in his liner notes that this live music was captured by a home tape recorder. What exactly is that? Dorn says that the recording is good. Do you guys agree with the assessment? It sounds quite tinny. Also the sax sound is strange but maybe that's because it's electric! Any comments on the recording? The music is definitely dynamite!

How the hell can I remember the name of my first pet? Let's try... Puss Caswell Hill -
Latest update on the upcoming Dolphins-Patriots Sunday matchup: Miami tightend Randy McMichael has been talking a little trash about the Patriots, claiming that Pat's safety Rodney Harrison is a "dirty player." He also was quoted as saying the Patriots have been winning ugly and have beaten the Dolphins earlier this season only in the last quarter after having been beaten in the other three quarters. Whaddya think, Evan? I would say that with the Patriots playing very well right now, it doesn't hurt to get some extra motivation. This game is going to be a slugfest. The two teams know each other very well. I believe the Pats will win at home, but the Dolphins are playing very well right now and it won't be easy. We can't rule out an upset.

Cannibalism isn't a crime in Germany!
connoisseur series500 replied to RDK's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Just wait till I start digging into my book on cannibalism. Let me go find it and read the title.... (pause) It's called, "Cannibals: Shocking True Tales of the Last Taboo on Land and at Sea," edited by Joseph Cummins (published 2001.) I'll start quoting long passages... -

Unlike cannibalism performed underdressed. I don't know about you, but I hate showing up to a cannibalism party dressed casual dressy when everyone else is FORMAL dressy. Very embarassing. Sounds like something out of a Far Side cartoon! -
As I was mentioning in another thread, I've always been an avid reader since childhood. There are approximately 3,000 (Hardbound!!) books on my shelves at home: history, literature, poetry, natural history, art, military history, etc. Yet I'm lucky if I am able to read a book now every 3-4 months! I get my share of magazines and have been catching up on my Smithsonian reading, which I always enjoy, but I can't list that as an excuse. What ARE my excuses? 1. Work saps the shit out of me. Everyone probably has that excuse as well. 2. I've got all these jazz cds to listen to. Sure, but why don't I just read when listening? Is that possible? 3. I've got to keep up my chess studies. For ex. my next tournament is a week away. Now here's a big time-sapper. But the truth is that I've been playing hookey on my chess studies as well of late. 4. Got to help my kid do his homework. This does take a lot of my evening time. 5. I get sleepy when reading now that I'm older. BINGO! This one is big with me! 6. My evening time is spent romping with my woman in bed. Umm this is starting to get personal. At my age? We do some...ah let's just change the subject... 7. My face is in front of this computer all evening posting at Organissimo. Here's another valid excuse in my case. 8. My Sundays are shot during football season. There's another valid reason. I'm too tired to come up with other excuses, but if you add all these up it starts to make sense. I am going to have to find a way to build up my reading time again.

Great post, Jim A. and well presented. Did you go through the Ross Perot school of charts?

Cannibalism isn't a crime in Germany!
connoisseur series500 replied to RDK's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Interesting points Adam. The other famous examples of cannibalism performed under duress that I can recall offhand was what occured in the Greeley Arctic expedition at the turn of the century and the crashed airliner in the Andes in the 70s. I find this topic rather interesting... -

The link's there - feel free to delete the text if you want. But the thread is about cannibalism, so any reader should expect something unsettling, no? I think the thread is fine, RDK. Cannibalism is considered fine in some societies; although, I don't know if this is so anymore. I've got a book about Cannibalism. I oughta read it sometime and post comments about it here! -

Seems to me that hundreds of thousands of people are willing to do just about anything. -
Been replaying "Ramblin" a few times since this thread came up. I've always liked it and I'm liking it even more now. This is beautiful music. All the tracks are good, but "Stolen Moments" is magically beautiful. It's a shame that "Sidewinder" got cropped like it did. It was going really good.

I go along with Dan on this. Sounds like a heap of fun. Anywhere in the Midwest in fine with me! -
