  1. I get a whole lot of reading accomplished when that happens!
  2. Aw c'mon Ron. I thought you were going to join in on this wonderful philosophical topic. Don't tell me you just head out into the woods and view the stars!
  3. I gotta be the king of this. How many times have you sold or traded or given away a cd that you wish you hadn't? I've done this so many times, it's sickening. Why do I do it? I think it has to do with guilt because I spend so much money on this addiction. I try to be as ruthless as possible with my collection and if something doesn't show immediate promise, I try to trade it or sell it in order to free up money to buy something else. I got rid of Grant Green, "Blues for Lou," then bought it back again and liked it. I did the same for several other sessions. Right now my biggest regret was in selling my copy of Andrew Hill, "Lift Every Voice," The voices just didn't hit me or I would get strange looks while pumping this out in high volume in my car with the windows down. On the other hand, the music was awesome. Gotta get that one back. I am just not willing to pay $14-15 for it. I'll wait till it turns up cheap in a store somewhere. I also regret getting rid of Bobby Hutcherson, "Live in Montreux." Not easy to get that one back. I often put music on to help me sleep, and I was feeling rather sick and feverish one day and put this on while I went to bed. I nodded off and was jerked awake with that one loud piano solo where the pianist was slamming on his instrument. That did it!! It gave me nightmares listening to it afterwards. I really was feeling bad that day. Still, I should probably go and get that one back. On the other hand, I have gotten rid of several sessions then decided to go an buy them back and STILL did not like them! Examples here would be Jackie Mclean, "One Step Beyond" (I love "Destination Out" however--go figure) and Grachan Moncur, "Some Other Stuff." Gave those two tries and ended up getting rid of them twice! This is for Jacknife: I DO NOT regret getting rid of Dodo!
  4. Oh, and of course, this means that I am not a "metrosexual." I suppose that means that I'm not sexually attracted to public transportation.
  5. Very nice and all that, Randy, but do you realize that you are taking everyone's attention away from the day's burning question: "what do you read on the toilet?" I mean, there's a time and a place for everything, you know.
  6. I will look at magazines, but lately I just grab a chessbook and open it to some diagram and try to predict the next move. I find that very helpful as far as, er, relaxation is concerned. I also will grab my copy of AMG or Penguin and just flip through it. That's kind of fun. I don't read novels or any thick nonfiction. Secret is not to get so involved that you end up placing the book on the sink and reading it while standing up and the toilet has already been flushed. Your wife thinks you're still in there doing your business when actually you're just reading!
  7. Scored a big fat zero. Even though I read good books, I am more likely to grab a magazine when going to the bathroom. That was the closest I got to scoring a point. Lately, I've been looking at chess problems on the throne. Helps the ol bowels move.
  8. That's the only one I've got as well. What you don' JK, copying my collection?? I had the Roy Eldridge which I liked initially but tired of it quickly. Obviously, this is a series I should pay more attention to.
  9. I think I paid $14-15 for this cd. So that's what I would pay.
  10. I've been chasing this cd for some time and have been outbid several times on ebay. Seems popular with the masses. Any other later Duke Pearson due to come out on JRVG? I'm thinking of Phantom and Now Hear This.
  11. What a predicament!! Can't give any suggestions beyond going in the opposite direction of skunks when they are sighted; but hope the mentioned secret forumlae mentioned work! Good luck.
  12. Wha-hooo! Saw it coming!! It was the "smell" of the matchup. Browns had to win. Christ, now Ted Washington and David Patton were hurt in the New England game. Forget the Pats going anywhere this season. Must look like a hospital ward over there.
  13. Technically not true. There were a number of test pressings done for prospective TOCJs but for some reason they were never issued. 'That Certain Feeling' appears to be one of them. I had a test copy of an unissued TOCJ Three Sounds 'Vibrations' CD which I sold for a small fortune. That's probably where my cd-burn came from.
  14. You mean you backup all posts including Johnny E's? Now why would you want to do that?
  15. Wondering if anyone will have "That Certain Feeling" available now that the Mosaic is coming out. I've got only a cd burn of the session and would like the real thing. Was this issued on cd anywhere?
  16. Errr latest info: Corey Dillon is hurt and unlikely to play the second half. Steelers will win.
  17. I'm watching the Bungles and the Steelers right now. Steelers are up 7-0. I still think the Bungles will pull this one out. They tend to play the Steelers tough. I'm blue about the Pats losing Rosie Colvin for the season. That's two starting linebackers out; and couple this with the departure of Lawyer Milloy. I can't be optimistic of the Pats chances this year. They'll beat the Jets at home however. Looking forward to the Bills-Dolphins this evening. I don't know who'll win. Something about those Browns...I think they'll upset the 49ers.
  18. Done with the typical farsightedness of a true Conservative. Liberals don't plan that far ahead.
  19. Thanks Vibes; I'll just go and do that. B)
  20. Great stuff, Dr. J. I had a couple of those sessions and traded them away (such as the Roy Eldridge.) I also know where to get the Tal Farlow and the Walt Dickerson. Does anyone know if those two are good sessions? I believe there are some extra copies of the Dickerson as well there. I've kept the Jazztet, "Here and Now," which seems readily available. Wouldn't part with that one!!
  21. Ooops! My bad, actually "Speaking My Piece" is the one I have, and not "Heading South." Wheww! almost got another Dodo!
  22. Hmm, I like all those sessions. Always spiritual, it seems as if Lloyd gets more spiritual with age. "water is Wide" is my personal favorite. Of course, I love Mehldau's work on it along with "Hyperion.."
  23. Another positive vote for me, JK. the sound is fine to me; and the music excellent. I do not know how much it goes for.
  24. I wish I could find Headin' South in my Horace Parlan collection but unfortunatley I haven't been lucky enough to pick that one up yet! "Headin South" happens to be one of the 7-10 that I own. Am I sitting on something awesome here? Forgot where I got it--was it Dusty Groove? Damned if I can remember.
  25. None at all. I gave up my old stereo system years ago. I no longer own a turntable.
