  1. I work with Jamacians on a near daily basis, and one of my clients told me that the press just reported that this story is bogus, and that Rita Marley is denying saying anything of the sort.
  2. I have this album, and you are right, Brad, it is a very fine release. I particularly enjoyed their interpretations of the Ellington stuff. But what Danilo Perez is doing....it's cutting edge. Danilo's trio is breaking new ground. And when you can hear someone breaking new ground, to me, jazz doesn't get any more exciting than that. As many great piano trio releases as there were in 2004, I don't think any were as advanced as "Live at the Jazz Showcase".

Plus, they released that "Live at Yoshi's: Vol. 1" album on MaxJazz with Ray Drummond and Victor Lewis. I've heard that Vol. 2 is due out this year. I heard some cuts from Vol. 1 on the radio....very nice.
  4. akanalog, can I give you a couple recommendations? Try Avshai Cohen's "The Trumpet Player" and "Guilty" by Chris Cheek, Ethan Iverson, Ben Street, and Jorge Rossy. Both are on FSNT. Have you tried William Parker's "Scrapbook" on Thirsty Ear? If you listen to these and still feel the same, I will stand corrected! By the way, we're the same age! I can't believe my 10 year high school reunion is this year....
  5. A strange combination this morning.....its "Wagon Wheels" from Sonny Rollins' Way Out West album, and "Close Edge" by Mos Def.
  6. It always makes me sad to read comments like these. There's so much good jazz coming out these days (especially on FSNT), but it seems that so many people are so wrapped up in the golden ages that they become discriminatory against everything else. Not a good sign for our music.
  7. Thanks, everyone, for your feedback. I really appreciate it.
  8. I can't believe that....what a disgrace. I paid $15 for it at the Jazz Showcase release party. It almost sounds like a mistake... In any event, its a damn shame, because people should really be hearing this music, and now most likely won't because of the price.
  9. Thanks Chrome. I have read reviews and am somewhat familiar with the plot...it sounds really interesting.
  10. Hi everyone, As I've been discovering classic foreign films over the past couple years, I've been purchasing Criterion Collection DVDs without ever having seen the films. Needless to say, I've rarely been disappointed. The next batch I'm eyeing, however, I've heard very little about, and was wondering if any of you could give me some advice on whether I should take the plunge without seeing them first. The films on the radar are: Stray Dog Eyes Without a Face Bande a Part (Band of Outsiders) Slacker Peeping Tom M The Wages of Fear The Vanishing Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!

A couple of threads on these guys here: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...pic=7467&hl=fly http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...ic=10136&hl=fly The album is really good. One of my favs of 2004. I hope to see them live some day.
  12. That's a great performance.
  13. Picked up 3 Mosaic Selects: Dexter Gordon Don Pullen Dizzy Reece
  14. Grachan Moncur Select - Disc 3. The Hipnosis session. Hot!
  15. There's nothing like some tounge tacos from the south side with onion, cilantro, and some lime!
  16. Alot of the smaller labels still use liner notes. I know Criss Cross, for example, has notes for every release they put out.
  17. Me like very much.
  18. ejp626, can you come out this week? I'll be with sheldonm at the Sunday matinee. Anyone else within driving distance from Chicago is invited as well! It would be great to meet more board members.
  19. Relax. If you take the time to read the musician's forum, cooltrane took the time to introduce himself to our community. He's not a troll.
  20. The Trane sets on your list (Atlantic, Impulse quartet, Village Vanguard) are all sure things. Along with the Miles Columbia sets, they are my favorites...even more than my Mosaics. Might I suggest the "Live Trane: The European Tours" box set from Fantasy. Seven CDs of peak live John Coltrane Quartet...some of the songs have Eric Dolphy as well.

    Herbie Hancock

What Noj said, and don't forget "Maiden Voyage", which may be his best album ever. "Takin' Off" and "Speak Like a Child" are also great. Then there's all those Blue Notes where he was a sideman, his work with Miles......
  22. I know what you are talking about. I was contracting in the Loop for a few months, and the few times I went to Fields on my lunch, I'd hear jazz. I remember one time they played like four Monk tunes in a row!
  23. Been stuck at work late all week, and really wanted to catch that show, but couldn't do it.
  24. ejp626 ??
