Went to go buy it, but it was $17.99 at Borders! Best Buy should get it within the next few weeks, so I'll wait to get it cheaper there.

"Boss Horn" is a great session....I like it much more than "The Thing to Do". Won't be purchasing this one because I have the Mosaic, but I highly recommend this one to anyone who doesn't have it.

I'd go with option B.

If we're talking about jazz in the soundtrack (I thought we were just talking about jazz as subject matter), then there's a huge list. One of the most memorable to me is Roman Polanski's "Knife In the Water". Great film filled with great music.....and availiable on a great Criterion Collection DVD! I remember picking this title up about a year ago based on feedback from this board. Another big thanks to ubu, and everyone else who talked me into buying that one!

I thought I was the guy this series was for. Scott you and I are in the same boat. Most of this stuff is new to me. I've got a few of the McMasters that I've upgraded for sonic reasons, so I pass the older versions on to family and friends. I'm with you guys too. We are really spoiled....and very lucky. This batch looks great! Haven't heard the Don Cherry or the Hutcherson sets. Can't wait to get em!

I just ordered David Berkman's newest release "Start Here Finish There" from the Palmetto website. I noticed that he has come other titles on the label called "Leaving Home", "Communication Theory", and "Hand Made". Has anyone heard these? Opinions? By the way, you can buy everything from Palmetto's catalogue directly from their webiste for $12.99 and less! I just ordered Andrew Hill's "A Beautiful Day" and Matt Wilson's "Wake Up! (To What's Happening)" as well as the Berkman for $12.99 each.

In "Eyes Wide Shut", Tom Cruise heads out to a club to see his friend play, who is a jazz pianist.

These guys have been putting out some great music lately.....not sure what you mean.

This is the movie of the year, folks. In a very interesting cinematic year filled with daring and contreversial projects, sleeper comedies, and a wonderful slew of foreign films, this one stands out above the rest. I won't get too much into the plot. All I can say is that it involves a worn down gym owner/boxing manager who reluctantly takes in a student, a girl from the bottom of the socio-economic barrel who views boxing as her only chance in life. As in any Clint Eastwood film, there is much beneath the surface, and the movie takes an unpredictable turn. Much like "Mystic River" from last year, "Million Dollar Baby" delves deep into its characters and gives you a strong sense of why they do what they do. The mood is bleak and the drama intense. But what emerges is one of the most emotionally powerful films of the new millenium...a new high water mark for Eastwood and easily the best film of the year. Clint Eastwood gives the best acting performance of his career, and I've seen just about everything he's been in. He really acts in this movie, which is something that I think has been missing from his past few performances. He isn't just "Clint Eastwood" on screen like he normally is...he becomes his character 100%. Look out, Jamie Foxx....Mr. Eastwood might be going home with your Oscar. Hillary Swank gives her best perfomance ever as well, eclipsing her role in "Boys Don't Cry". She's tough, funny, and extremely convincing as a boxer. And while it might not be his best role ever, Morgan Freeman gives his best performance since " The Shawshank Redemption". Don't be surprised if both Hillary and Morgan take home Oscars later this month. The film is photographed to perfection, and delivers healthy doses of excitement, humor and pure emotional intensity. The boxing scenes give "Raging Bull" a run for its money. And if you even have a small amount of appreciation for good film, you will not walk out of the theater unaffected. For the first time in a lot of years, I found myself glued to my seat at the end....sitting there through the credits and until the lights went on, unable to move. Don't miss this one.

Medeski Martin & Wood, Soulive, and Karl Denson are the closest thing to jazz that I know of who have performed at Bonnaroo. And both are signed to the majors. I was at the first Bonnaroo festival, and there was a complete absence of jazz. I, for one, would have loved to see a group like Organissimo or any other "jazz" artists perform there.

I saw it a couple weeks ago. I thought it was a mezmerizing film. Its full of heart and emotion, yet it's still fun to watch. As far as comparing it to "Hero", its hard to do that because aside from having the same director, they are completely different movies. This movie is a love story....a tragedy. "Hero" is a valentine to Chinese culture. Both are fantastic, and both are well worth watching. I really like this direction that director Zhang Yimou is moving into.....visually stunning kung fu movies with heart. I agree with jazzbo that this movie is more like Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon than "Hero" was, but still very different. That Zhang Ziyi sure is beautiful.....

I'm a financial analyst for one of the major oil companies. My group sells jet fuel to the airlines, and my territory is Latin America and Caribbean (which is nice since I have to travel alot). -

Just placed my pre-order. The sound clips sound really good! -
McNabb is a great QB, no doubt. But that won't mean anything. You can't stop the Patriots offense. Brady is the best, and also the smartest, QB in the NFL right now, and his offense will simply overrun the Eagles. If the Steelers couldn't stop it, how can Philly?

Wasn't Red on some of the Tal Farow sides as well?

I've been eyeing "Songs in the Wind" and "Song for my Sister" for a while now, but haven't taken the plunge. Allmusic gave them both good reviews....but we know how that goes. Anyone who has heard these care to share their thoughts? Edit: Add "Nine to Get Ready" to the list as well. Thanks!

Adam, what years are these performances from?? By the way, cduniverse has this 3 disc set availiable for preorder at the very decent price of $17.50.

I'm surprised there isn't more love for the fudge-dipped shortbreads aka Animal Treasures! Those are wonderful. -
2003. Picked up the JJ Johnson, Blue Mitchell, and Stanley Turrentine sets in one sweep. Now, ten Mosaic box sets and 12 Selects later, I'm still hooked.

Nothing of the sort has been released on Blue Note.

I recommend the RCA box as well. Good packaging, good sound, nice booklet, and GREAT music.
