  1. Yep, but it should be remembered that Joe Philips plays sax and bass on that track.
  2. O Of course the Shepp-Parlan is 14, not 13.
  3. 8-16: Most of these I have no idea, but: 12. Very nice tune, I think the trumpeter is Clark Terry, it reminded me his great solo in "A tune for the tutor", a personal favorite. 13. I got this: "Deep river" by Archie Sheep and Horace Parlan.
  4. I already have it and I love the album. Why didn't I think of that before? It's "In light of blackness" from Black Unity Trio "Al-fatihah". Great choice!
  5. 7. I like a lot, the latin intro reminds me of "Manteca". Great saxophonist, it drives me crazy because it's sounds so familiar but I have no idea, very intriguing.
  6. 5. Oh, it's a clarinet, maybe Jimmy Giuffre?
  7. 2. It's "God bless the child" from his masterpiece "To my queen", with George Tucker. Just I got a japanese vinyl reissue in the listening stack. Another batch: 4. Great hard-bop. I got this: "The rat race blues" by Gigi Gryce on Prestige. With Richard Williams, tp; Richard Wyands, p; Julian Euell, b; Mickey Roker, dr. 5. I like a lot this bass clarinet, but no idea who is. 6. Not my fav style, sounds to me like neo-bop from the 80s, maybe Harrison-Blanchard?
  8. I listened to the first 3 (the art of duo). 1. "Smoke gets in your eyes"? Sax-guitar sounds similar to Lovano-Frisell. Nice. 2. I love that vibraphone. Top. It's Walt Dickerson with Richard Davis? 3. I don't recognize the theme. It's Kenny Burrell in the 80s? Maybe Rufus Reid on bass? There is a live duo but I don't have it.
  9. The Paris 68 is terrific, but there's a theme from this video that's missing. With that extra track, the Paris session could be an LP. Marion Brown Paris 68
  10. Sirone? He's the first one I thought at bowed bass, but probably not because I don't remember him playing with another bassist on any record I own.
  11. Wikipedia also has some biographical info and a detailed discography from his early period (created by me).
  12. 63, retired three years ago.
  13. 4. It's "Eye strain" from Vito Price "Swingin' the loop". Very nice tune.
  14. OK, I was thinking of L.A. but it was London. Unknown to me, great choice.
  15. 6. Intriguing. Classic free jazz at his best, sax intro is beautiful, similar maybe to Noah Howard, I like a lot the bowed bass and drumming section, I need this album (or maybe I already have it).
  16. Terrific album.
  17. Chicago is my favorite scene, I've been following 30 years ago, I've even been there. Playing with that energy (NRG) could only be Mars Williams and I went straight to that archive record.
  18. Recorded live at Elastic Chicago, 2012. The late Mars Williams with Darin Gray and Chris Corsano, "Elastic".
  19. The free jazz section: 3. Hyper-Aylerism, almost Brotzmann-esque. Sounds familiar to me but I don't id yet. 5. More contemporary vibes, maybe Chicago school post-Vandermark? 6. Disoriented, no idea who is.
  20. 7. "This side of infinity" from Sonny Fortune "From now on". 10. "Odds on" from Charles Kynard "Afro-Disiac".
  21. 10. Of course it reminds The Meters "Cissy Strut", another one similar is Reuben Wilson "Bus ride". Ultra funky.
  22. 2. Contemporary drumming, Jay Bellerose? It sounds to me like the Jeff Parker circle without guitar.
  23. 10. It's Charles Mingus "Canon" from Roberto Ottaviano "Charlie's Blue Skylight".
  24. Yep, nice reissue, 1976 ABC jazz library serie. I need to check that record, new to me.
  25. Japanese reissue of the Quincy album arrived at home.
