  1. Influential composers from someone else's view point: A Different Herd.
  2. Seems like Mr. Keillor is a bit out of touch with the *new* music of today...there's a lot of contemporary composers influenced by the minimalism of Glass, Reich, Feldman and others. I'd hardly think of Schoenberg as mainstream...influential, certainly. Contemporaries of Cage like Harry Partch and fellow Schoenberg student Lou Harrison had more than a bit of an impact on the new music of today. Feldman is no minimalist, either in terms of his own practice or in terms of IMO meaningful influence on the people who commonly are given that label. Just testing to see if anybody is reading carefully. So then what is Morton Feldman Larry?

  4. You lay down between the speakers and are impressed by the guitar coming from over there while the other guitar is over here.
  5. Ah...another way to reissue the Crimson catalog, we know it will sell!
  6. I think so too. Of course this didn't stop me from playing around with this when I was 15.
  7. I tend to think it is a double-speed tape thing. I can't imagine how they did it, but I'm not well-versed on those techniques. Sounds like speed up guitar, Perry imitating Les Paul. How did they do it? On my Dad's Tandberg reel to reel, the difference in tape speed is one octave. Record at the slower speed, play it back at regular speed and you have an octave higher guitar.
  8. Dreadful! The barstid's putting three musicians out of work! MG And the D'Addario folks get to buy a second home.
  9. Michael Hedges used them: Pat Metheny is credited with using a 15 string harp guitar on Watercolors, but there's no photo. Here's the one he plays now:
  10. A good print lifted from the crime scene was the clincher? You don't say. I guess watching TV has its advantages. I think I already said that they didn't do that when my laser printer got ripped off from my apt. You could keep Dan in the yard Joe...he'll irritate potential crime away from your place. I wonder what he'd say to them...
  11. But, unless you have asked most men and women and you are absolutely sure that they are being candid, you can only speak for yourself. Unless I missed something , everyone here is 'only' speaking for themselves . I suspect your pique has little to do with the fact that I failed to affix IMO to my post . I see your comment as disingenuous , for you must surely be familiar with the science of sampling and the fact that one needn't ask most people in order to make inferences about them , hence you must know that strictly speaking , your statement is false . In addition , my view presumes nothing about people's candor , since as my response to Bill outlined , it is predicated on a collection of my own and others' observations and reasonable inferences therefrom . single, eh?
  12. I'd like to get Some Blues... and Disco 3000. Maybe a trek to DMG this weekend is in order.
  13. Does this include members of the non-female gender that get extremely hormonal and flip out on other posters?
  14. So don't forget your cameras!
  15. ....and Rachel...
  16. There's Patricia...
  17. Probably recorded, but not released as far as I know.

    Anthony Braxton

It's difficult to find (especially when misspelling the first name of one of the performers). There are some downloadable copies. I have an MP3 version, just ordered a hard copy from amazon marketplace for a high but not outrageous price. There's three left here. The prices on the new ones are insane, IMO. Listening now. Thanks. One of the things that keeps me from buying any new Braxton is the amount that I already own. There's about 71 titles that I should listen to more often. An even greater problem right now is financing...
  19. Anthony Braxton - Willisau (Quartet) 1991

    Anthony Braxton

I don't own that one. I should. Someday, I will own all the Braxton I can get my hands on.
