  1. I caught two episodes of this list night on the Travel Channel. I thought it was pretty cool, my parents raised me to be pretty open about food. Has anybody else seen it? http://travel.discovery.com/tv/bizarre-foo...arre-foods.html
  2. He's there to keep time and coordinate a big group. Do you really think everybody can really hear each other that well? I'm thinking a symphony orch concert where it's pretty darn quiet, they can hear a pin drop. I agree that the conductor is the visual focal point. As long as he knows where he's at the musicians can read him, know pretty much where they're at by reading his body english/emotional sensitivity. I think you'll agree that his main gig is rehearsing? I'm under the impression that someone else does that and he just whips them into shape. I know a few people that play in orchestras and when I get an answer, I'll PM you. Edit: I guess I'm thinking of the concertmaster, the string section leader. Here's a bit about the conductor.

  4. The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test by Tom Wolfe Interestingly, Kerouac's big early influence was Thomas Wolfe, an unrelated writer from an earlier generation.
  5. I saw the original scroll on display in the Minneapolis museum of modern art about a dozen years ago (where about 50 feet were unfurled). Haven't read the tome, I'm afraid. Has it been that long? Wow. I hope the book has paragraph breaks.
  6. I traded off the first one in early June for a '52 Tele RI. The first one had some problems with the fingerboard - a hump - and they would have to plane it down and refret. Prob would have cost at least $400, so I wanted to get rid of it. The 2nd one is for sale because I need the cash and I'm not playing it because my hands just are not up those heavy strings. Lighter strings would change the tone and I've been having problems with arthritis. Anybody in the NJ area interested?
  7. Max and I share a birthday, so every year I've listened to it.
  8. I seem to remember there's a video of the Sun Ra where most of the people on winds & horns were playing them. I'll have to look around this weekend and see what I have.
  9. They've done a birthday broadcast every year for ages.
  10. Cool photos! I saw one at a guitar show a few years ago. I couldn't believe my eyes.
  11. Zorn, Dr. Chadbourne and Duck Baker at the Stone last night.. It was great, it's been a while since I've heard live free improv. Then we drove down to New Brunswick, NJ to hear local legends Lunar Bear Ensemble with Martin Atkins (PIL). That was pretty wild.
  12. I mean, hey...we've never seen anything like that before.
  13. note the CDs in the background. :rsmile:
  14. Keep it greezy kiddo.
  15. I'm not sure this is news.
  16. Now, a few months later...I'm glad I was there. I saw Rashied Ali on the way to the subway station, he split early like me. Shook his hand. It was pretty intense just being there. It was the first time for me to hear many of those people live.
  17. Hell, I keep one in the tub. Doesn't everybody?
  18. I'm not too surprised to hear a story like that.
  19. and I'm looking forward to it since I totally missed it the first time around. :rsmile:
