  1. It's here!
  2. I hear Dave Holland isn't playing that night. I still might go, it's been a while since I've been to the Stone and even longer since I've heard Evan play.
  3. that's pretty wild!
  4. Evil, huh? I was think something more along the lines of Kryptonite Man 'cause you did such a swell job of warding off that Karl Berger guy.
  5. I'm not too worried about which box is better, I wanted to fill out a big gap in my collection. I have a few of the individual albums in my collection, but now I can check out the whole era at my own leisure instead of waiting for a WKCR birthday broadcast. I never really got into early Coltrane, I've been obsessed with Atlantic and Impulse Coltrane for half my life.
  6. ED150??? Is that a typo or something I've never heard of before??? Yeah, it's a typo. As ES 150. Sorry, 'bout that!
  7. Thanks for the tip - I just ordered the other two boxes.
  8. Agree. He hints at it on his member page:
  9. I think someone invited him over here because they thought it would be a good place to troll.
  10. I would too! I came close to just trying an ED150 a few months ago, but they sold it before I got there. .
  11. Sounds reasonable to me.
  12. perfect for lighter fluid, just like Jimi!
  13. What's the vintage of your L5N/CC??? And what are those CC pickups really like??? My L5 is a '66, which was special-ordered with the CC. CC's are somewhat tricky animals to control, but to me, even if you have to sacrifice some aspect of the sound to control noise, they're still magical. I recommend this article: http://www.kokomomusic.com/pages/corner.html also interesting: What makes a Charlie Christian pickup a Charlie Christian pickup?
  14. (the previously mentioned Gibson L6-S). 1998 - Leaning into a bunch of notes that were close together at the Trenton Avant Garde Festival. Sonic Bloom for synthesizer and digital delays in 13 limit just intonation, September 12, 1998. I'm pretty sure this photo is by Jason Gross of Perfect Sound Forever.
  15. A few weeks ago Gibson guitars announced their version of Hendrix Family approved Strats - no kiddin'!

Wow...I didn't realize I had that much impact on the world. .
  17. What took so long? He was a troll.
  18. two from Terry Riley, I always thought that most of his music wasn't even very minimal. More like he's heavily influenced by his studies of Hindustani raga and rag time piano. Terry Riley - Chanting the Light of Foresight (with the ROVA Saxophone Quartet) Terry Riley - Assassin Reverie (with the ARTE Quartet)
  19. more minimalism Ulrich Krieger - Walls of Sound James Tenny, John Cage, Joseph Celli, Phill Niblock. Ulrich Krieger - Early American Minimalism: Walls of Sound II Philip Glass, Steve Reich, Terry Riley.
  20. Delta Saxophone Quartet - Minimal Tendencies from Amazon Steve Reich, Philip Glass, Gavin Bryars, Michael Nyman, Terry Riley. what it says.
  21. the Contemporary Saxophone Renewing the Myth, for saxophone & piano Composed by Marilyn Shrude with Marilyn Shrude, John Sampen Images, for saxophone & tape Composed by Milton Babbitt with Marilyn Shrude, John Sampen Divertimento Composed by Charles Wuorinen with Marilyn Shrude, John Sampen In Two Worlds Composed by Morton Subotnick with Marilyn Shrude, John Sampen looks like it's OOP!
  22. I looked into helping get a stone for Larry Young's gravesite and I was told that Young and by extension, his family, did not want one. In Young's case, it might have something to do with his Muslim faith. Thanks, I always wondered what happened. Where is it? Somewhere in Newark, NJ? I'd like to visit.
  23. I'm thinking about selling my Music Man Sterling fretless bass, I never play it any more. The amp I use the most is a '67 Fender silverface Bassman head through a 12" cabinet. And I use a THD Hotplate to keep the volume down. I have a bunch of other amps, mostly Fender that all need work.
  24. I have a bunch of guitars, but the last few months when I could play, I've been playing the Gibson L6S that my Dad bought me in '74, a '96 MIJ Fender Tele thinline with a SD humbucker in the neck and an el cheapo lap steel. I have a couple of Strats I'm thinking about selling. I played Joe's Hofner Verythin and I thought it was a real nice guitar. I wouldn't mind having one myself, but I'm not in the market right now!
  25. Evan Parker is 65. He was born in 1944. .
