  16. art is about compromise, those are dangerous words Dr. ← Don't you think it is though? --eric ← The inspiration and limits of form compromise could be argued that all art has limits (I would hope otherwise). The Commercialization of Art is a very large and complex debate. I would agree that the artist should consider the audience, beyond that any generalization gets tricky. Radio not being the originator of the art, just a presenter might then just becomes a used car salesman. On the other hand, can radio be an educational tool? Thomas Kinkade personifies the dangers. If you were arguing that radio is just for the uniformed masses and people with some knowledge should look elsewhere (One reason I spend so much money on music), I would disagree. The airwaves belong to all (or they should). Some jazz on the radio is better than none, maybe. I think financial considerations are an oppressive force in the world of art. Nevertheless, unfortunately we live in a time that the almighty dollar rules. Somewhere I have some great articles written about the subject however they are in storage. I hope that later this year I can retrieve them and can pm you with some recommend reading. Personally, I very rarely listen to jazz on radio, except for Ghost's show online and McPartland every once in awhile on a Sunday. I like to choose what I am in the mood for and much of the stuff I hear on radio just pisses me off.

  21. I often wondered if Bogart's line in Dead Reckoning where he makes a comment, somthing like "sounds like a bunch of Apple Pan Dowdy" or something like that, was a jab at Kenton or just a jab at commercial swing numbers? I like the Set.
  22. I've never heard of this; is this an adaptation of the short story? (Uh...does it involve killing for sport? would be the give away question I guess...) ← It's more of a story about a cult and coercion, don't want to give away the plot. Lewtons’ productions are very good considering the handicap he had, no budget. For example, most of the scenes in the Seventh Victim (and other of his films) were shot on recycled sets from The Magnificent Abersons. Because of this handicap he was forced to create atmosphere in stories (good thing) and use exploitive titles (not so good but no big deal). Not sure if it is an original screenplay or based on a short story. Worthy film, Kim Hunter with baby fat.
