  1. Woah. Sun Ra-ish sounding, I think I read here a thread/tie between Hill and Ra talking/collaborating in Chicago in the 50's (dunno who or where)
  2. I'm not following a word you said here. Gato? 60's v. 70's? Why don't we talk about 60's v. 70's George Benson? Irrelevant.
  3. Cherry's BN's are spectacular, and to think who he had as sideman....wow! We don't even need to rehearse the Atlantics with Ornette (beside the one will seemingly never hear) Wow!
  4. At first, I thought this was a Patrick Roques design, but it's not! I dig it. I like the cover and it looks "period" to me. Music's great, the more I listen to it, the more I like it!
  5. About Patrick Roques, I believe he carried the Reid Miles torch very fine, and the Connoisseur series album covers he either designed or gave a "facelift" to were very fine indeed: Patterns, Medina, Jack Knife, Solid, Vertigo, Third Season, Thinking of Home, Dance with Death (all the Hills he designed) were awesome! Is he still active? Is he designing the Tone Poets covers now (that weren't originally issued?) What does he look like? Is he alive? Can't even find an image of this dude on Google even.
  6. Curious what these are?
  7. Since this is a Don Cherry corner, I'd like to add that I still think his three BN's are superb as well as the live set released by ESP (three volumes me thinks) Why not did ESP make this a boxset?
  8. Grew on me, love this album! Especially the second cut, "Close Your Eyes" Woah.
  9. I suppose the bigger problem for me, is that I've been buying all the reissues in the traditional cd format for the last 20 years, and now, as much as I like uniformity, I ask, why didn't Columbia start this box set at the beginning??? Frustrating.
  10. Pick up as a young dude playing drums, and then play duo with Cherry? Sweetest story!
  11. I know its here, but in a strange way, I don't want to ruin the experience, but then again, if this is the only way I can listen to it....
  12. Never heard it, is it worth the cd wait? A stupid question to some, but I'm entirely out of the vinyl market.
  13. Totally. So happy I jumped on Burning Spirits, promo used! But come on, Bartz, Shaw, Contemporary, in that really interesting period, period? Neglected! And I mean that part of Contemporary, not the Peppers, Hawes, or the Manns ( and I like that later period where Mann was getting freer (Kessel, Tal too.) Deserves reissues!
  14. This dude is heavy, and anytime I see one of his records, I jump on it, besides the ESP's, I have a weird one on some weird label. Don't understand why he's not in Don Ellis or Albert Ayler's world, he should be.
  15. I get what you mean, I love 311, and after seeing their live show several times, their show doesn't change much either. HOWEVER, this is my first time seeing this band, but it'll probably be my last too.
  16. Don't know this dude; has Hermansader done anything else? I like this though, it kinda reminds me of the Partridge family birds in a way, something that Contemporary Records were doing with their Hampton Hawes jackets.
  17. Guess it doesn't explain the "bird" cover, which is awesome!
  18. Now we in Winby, nothing seems straight, and this is Its been a pleasure to talk tennis on this forum; and largely I agree with everything being said here. Now how about this potential match: Rafa v. Joker. Thoughts.
  19. Billiard Room (drops the microphone)
  20. Yup.
  21. This is almost as rare, Golden Number is worth seeking out, if you can find a copy.
  22. Would like it, but anything after his "retirement" are not of interest, which is why I sat on this set, probably too long.
  23. Yeah, me too, but the "Birds" cover is my favorite.
  24. That almost convinced me of an episode I saw on Mars on the show "What on Earth?" on the Science channel.
