  1. This movie was on just a few days ago on TCM and it is cheesy as shit, but the clips of Stan Getz (practicing for that nights gig in that cheesy club, but cool to see Gary Burton (I think)) and the Jimmy Smith Trio (who is the band) and Eric Burden and the Animals in full color was pretty decent. That alone was the price of admission and got me through it.
  2. All morning, because I inherited a batch of it: quite like Holiday Diary (Virgin Classics).
  3. Wife on a whim (knowing that I own nearly 50 Mozart cd's) picked up "Complete Piano Concertos Vol 6" on Naxos and neither did I not own it, but am completely happy with it. I've heard( haha) that the production values, sound and presentation are up to premium standards at budget prices. She found it for 50 cents, guess that's true.

Right, why it fetches those ridiculous prices at auction houses.
  5. I really do like Mal 1-4 and the Quest, Little/Dolphy. Honestly, anywhere Mal was on (especially the Prestige days) I bought, distinctively for his uniqueness; but in my opinion, Mal is best when left alone to do what he wants, for example his ECM date. Maybe in a unusual collaboration, Marion Brown got closest to understanding Mal's style on those great duet records they cut for Bicycle Wheel in the 80-90's. My opinion of course.

Right Dub, I wasn't trying to exemplify this aspect either, all I was trying to say is that it doesn't matter to me; if I like the music, who cares? Right?
  7. RIP to this fascinating pianist/composer who I just discovered recently; this film/footage of the "Zeeland Suite" is just simply mesmerizing to watch. Awesome to see Willem Breuker, Harry Miller and such in 1977!

True Blue is a great record. Back to the Tracks (partially Street Singer/ J's Bag I think) for Jackie alone is awesome, and the other two Connie's are sweet. Glad to have all the BN's. I really don't care if Tina (whoever) is gay or straight, this is simply great music.
  9. Anything by the LOST quintet. Period. My Funny Valentine/ Four and More is hands down my favorite from the second quintet. Love basically Electric Miles up to retirement (1). One, wha? Two, this is the most kick-ass pic of Miles I've ever seen. Yes and yes.
  10. Funny, TTK, but I've been having a bachelor pad/ exotica weekend at my house while playing pool, and the wife and friends are really digging the program.

    Albert Ayler

The best way I can put it was congenial. It seemed he didn't understand what an imprint Albert had (and Donald) who I also met)) had on this music. My older daughter was speaking like he was a rock star, and I guess why not?! He had some pretty awesome kids.
  12. Jaw-dropping for me. To see so many legends on one stage was mesmerizing.
  13. Love Chet Baker. Anybody seen this?
  14. Is there a thread on forward-thinking European jazz drummers? Just wondering.
  15. Ooof. I think you're right. Sorry fir that blunder. Nice footage of AVS I guess....
  16. Something I've never seen before, albeit, post your parameters: There is a solo by Joe.
  17. Should be on both Brotz and Fred's pages; just great, great footage of them both.
  18. Don't know where else to post this, but check out this nut footage!!!
  19. Never heard William Parker speak. Let alone Marion Brown and Alan Silva. Deep for me!
  20. Big fan. Miss him a lot. So many chances to see him too, yet I always talked myself out of it..."he'll be around next year." His short Columbia run, especially "Go See The World" is extraordinary for a major label release. Surrendered too.
  21. Ugh, I've always had a terrible time falling asleep. I tend to rely on tv to try to put me to sleep (TCM is good for this with no commercial interruptions, sans the commentary in between movies) but that usually ends when my wife wakes up around 4am to go to the bathroom too. She tolerates it to a degree (and she can fall asleep within minutes...I'm so jealous of that!) only because she knows my mind goes a mile a minute when it's dead silent, and I can't fall asleep. My fidgety legs (RLS) and restlessness always gives it away.
  22. My favorite track on The All Seeing Eye. A tremendous record (my favorite Wayne Shorter record overall) but more often than not, I wind up starting with "Mephistopheles" first and then start the record with the first track after that.
