  1. Yeah, that one got deep inside me for a few weeks....easily overlooked/underappreciated/whatever, but lord have mercy...mastery
  2. Wes Wormd
  3. Both of them!
  4. A Sonny/Wilbur/Elvin Worm! Ok, the thing is, when you listen to solos to learn the vocabulary, there are a lot of phrases that become earworms. This one was full of them. Little phrases that grab hold. You hear them everywhere, but sometimes, in one solo, they just grab extra hard. Doesn't have to be anybody's greatest solo, or even a particularly good one, they just grab hold. This one too. So...I get how the mixologists can pull out an isolated thing or two. Totally get that. Where they get my respect is by taking those little pieces and building a full piece out of it. Even though it's quite often not really all that good, it impresses me that they can even begin to think that way, an earworm montage/collage, and the longer people think that way, the greater the odds that it will evolve. I couldn't even begin to think like that, not like that.
  5. The Earworm gets the Bird.
  6. Ask him why it took him so damn long to listen to Beatles records.
  7. The guy who played with that fast trombone player, what was his name...Bill Watercress, that's him.
  8. My guess would be from the orb of Blue Mitchell?
  9. The DJs use them as samples?
  10. Like Danny Styles, the trumpet player?
  11. Ask him hey dude, how's it goin'! Ask him to get that Circle band back together. They were spunky! Ask him what he knows about this episode of Adam 12: And then, if it was me, I'd call it a night and go home.
  12. This thread has not really become "political", but the incident generating it surely is being used for ongoing political purposes: http://www.politico.com/story/2017/10/12/harvey-weinstein-breitbart-rose-mcgowan-twitter-243712 I never feel too uncomfortable about calling a piece of shit a piece of shit. I do, however, cast a wary eye at people agitating on me to do that. Like it proves anything that a (fill in the blank with the socio-political designation of your choice) is a piece of shit. Same game, different team, pieces of shit all.
  13. People who want Ran Blake on this list, better act now. The guy's old and could be gone by the end of the time it takes you to post, so ACT NOW, WHILE SUPPLIES LAST!!!
  14. My recommendation would be to just listen to Jack McDuff records, period. There will some ballads along the way, and then, hey.
  15. Ok, this is not adequate, at least as stated. It's neither right nor accurate to conflate hustling with forced, involuntary sex. Nor is it accurate or right to think that the hunter getting captured by the game is always just one more part of the game. I'm not "shocked" by anything, really, but not knowing where the lines are, no matter how vague they might appear to civilians and other people who like to look, that's correctable. You play the odds if you're a player. If you just take what you want no matter what, you're a common, petty thief. Nobody likes common/petty, nor should they. People get shot for that shit, and nobody really cares.
  16. Smart enough to sing opera on the radio.
  17. Paul Bley was alive between 2000 & a few days of 2016, so he was living during the period in question, and would, in fact, still be living if had not already have died. So perhaps your question and my answer are chronologically adjunct, in which case, don't blame me, blame death. This is why I don't like lists, they involve understanding the question, in both the asking and the answering. Is it just me, or is it cold in here?
  18. Oh, another list. Ran Blake (1 listing) & Paul Bley (0 mentions?). I like old guys who play new because they don't like playing old. But they play it old, because they are. Anybody can be young, not everybody gets to be old. and a lot of old guys do "mastery" instead of new, which is its own thing. But hey, new is a way of thinking, not a way of playing. Kids today, no rush. Just stay new when you get old. Not as easy as it might seem. Geri Allen was on her way, but then she died. But she was alive on and after 2000. I've heard a few things things that indicate that Kenny Barron still has some new in him too, even amid all the mastery. But geez, he's old by now, right? Lists are for grocery shopping!
  19. Well, by gollie, that will merit a view in the future. Thanks for the heads-up!
