  1. Apparently not. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boog_Powell_(outfielder) https://www.lonestarball.com/2017/8/6/16104720/texas-rangers-nearly-blow-out-twins-lose-6-5

  4. I switched to vinegar/oil/herbs at first just looking for a healthier alternative to mayo. Come to find out, I preferred the flavor and the texture, more tang, less goo. On subs, mind you, not on, like "regular" bread, that would be crazy, the bread wouldn't hold up. For that, mayo. But a sub, yeah, that's where I go. And for PB&J, neither.
  5. Ok, thanks for the responses, all. Appreciate it. I'll look for the Dug thing, that and the Piano Jazz. I hope she gives good conversation. No real body of work of her playing piano with rhythm section then? Honestly, I would have expected Decca or Bethlehem to have had something. Who knew? Believe it or not, it was Jacy Parker who got me to this point, reflected through Aretha Franklin/Ray Charles/Mose Allison, and of course/always, Shirley Horn. The whole idea of, if you can play piano well enough and sing well enough, and do both simultaneously, that should provide the best possible outcome. I'll even give Diana Krall props in that way, not my "thing" for either singing or piano playing, but she always seems comfortable with what she gives herself to sing with.
  6. How much of this is there, and is it mostly from one time period, and is it conveniently packaged? Haven't always been that much of a fan, but I feel a window opening, maybe.
  7. wow...I wonder if there are any unopened boxes of Post cereal with the cards on back?
  8. Don Cinderella just laying it down, hard, but dig - she's giving him the room to do that, she's in there with him. So many times you hear this "type" of singer and they have great players behind them, but you can tell they are "adjusting" a little bit because if they really swung hard, opened up that pocket, it would get too diffuse for the singer to follow. A singer's timing is funny, it's like baseball, split microseconds, as much or more intuitive/reflexive as it is anything. Not really a "problem", but still, people (plural) letting it flow, always a good thing, no matter what kind of music it is. This is not a problem with Jacy Parker, even if it's a fixed quantity in terms of repertoire and vibe, the pocket is just groovy. If find it puzzlesome that she had this thing going on, made the one record, and then, what. vaporized? There should be some trace, somewhere. But damned if I can find one.
  9. A wise man! Hell, I don't even know where the HP in Lewisville is any more...
  10. DAMN!!!! Did you buy it, or might it still be there? I really like her pocket, it's very solid. The band is able to engage with it rather than accommodate it. Maybe not a real obvious thing, but if you play with enough singers, you get to where you can tell which is which. She seems like she would have been a gas to play with. Her self-comping is just in there.

Probably the next step after Bobby McFerrin. Consider that as either encouragement or warning, depending on what that means to you. Why isn't jazz more popular? Easy - it don't turn on the chicks.
  13. She vanished without a trace? Really? Literally?
  14. I wonder who came up with the name "Claxtonola". Rolls out of the mind and further on out of the mouth with remarkable fluidity!

  17. Kevin Walker laughs at the presumptuousness of that assumption. Dude, that scrap made Ryan A National Hero in Arlington for a decade or more. Then he went to the Astros becuase he got butthurt by ownership and now nobody gives a fuck. Well, almost nobody: I was watching that game on TV, and have seen it replayed literally hundreds of time. As usual, the mythoogy is a lot more gaudy than the reality. But the reality, as always, is a lot more interesting: http://www.thepostgame.com/blog/men-action/201404/nolan-ryan-making-pitcher-rob-goldman-rangers-white-sox-ventura-grebeck
  18. So are they going to crash and burn or are they going to do a slow fade? The "drama" of all this, this one minute we're about to sink oh my god you really care we can hang around a little longer BUT we're gonna crash and burn...I get the personal drama for the people who actually run the business, but I'd prefer not to see private emotion driving public policy, and again, don't holler FIRE!!!! and then wonder where all the fire trucks came from AND then say, oh well, thanks firefighters BUT this time it worked BUT we all know there's going to be another fire AND you guys won't be able to help us then, I'm like what the fuck dude, that's all just a bit too emo for me, just...let Fred handle all official communications going forth, please. And is it just me, or has Cuscuna been more or less quiet through all this? Since when did Scott Wenzel become The Official Voice Of Mosaic? Cuscuna's given me more product (literally, going back 45 years or so, I was already "indebted" before Mosaic was a twinkle in somebody's eye) than has Wenzel, so, what does he have to say about all this? Nothing? Good! Everything dies. Not everything dies with dignity, though.
  19. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCnkp4xDOwqqJD7sSM3xdUiQ I went in waiting to find a stooopid internetyoutube fuckup. Haven't found one yet. YMMV, etc. but what he talks about is real, at least so far. Whether is's "interesting" or not will be your call. I kinda have had to force myself to stop watching.
