The CD has some nice bonus material. Rock flashback playing now - 'Til Tuesday - Voices Carry (Epic). A Boston band that seemed to get a lot of local airplay (back in the days when there was such a thing). Don't you love it how young talent looks all moody and shit for album covers, and then when they age they get all smiley and friendly for the covers, when the odds are very good that in real life it works just the opposite way? A smiley young person on an album cover is creepy, and a scowling old fuck is just scary. I guess that's why.

I love that one...got it a looooong time ago very accidentally and very circuitously and had no idea what lay in store. when the bridge to that "Jenny" song hit....whoa.... -
Dude - do NOT EVER put yourself in a situation where you have to depend on cookies. Little Debbie will jump up and snatch you up and carry you off to HELL (the real one) in two shakes of a cat's tail.

Anybody heard Brook's Avant-Slant from 1968? That suggests to me that if a Brooks-Coleman collaboration would have worked, it would have worked in 1968 a lot better than in 1958.

If you want to think really big...$2700.00 total should be enough to bring everything current until the end of next year, correct? 27 people giving $100.00 each...I don't know that we have 27 people who could give $100.00 each, but think of it in those terms. 2 people partner in @ $50.00, 4 people @ $25.00, 2.857142857142857 people @ $35.00, etc. and next thing you know, the server is booked for the next 15 months. There will be plenty other stuff to be worried about during that time, but the lack of the O-Board will not be one of them. Or hell, just one rich and/or generous mofo giving the whole $2700.00. That'll work too! Either way, it's doable.
-
Yes, that would be nice! $900.00 to pay you back and to pay ahead until the end of 2013, correct? If just 9 people give $100.00, it's a done deal. 18 people, $50.00, etc. Go over that, and maybe get a month or so of 2014 paid. Point being, this is not the time to think in terms of a "casual" donation, unless you are in fact a "casual" user. Not talking actual $$$ amount as much as the consideration of what is affordable for each of us. Sounding like PBS, I know, but now that the kids are gone, I get more out of this place than I do PBS. Don't make Jim have to bring TJ Lubinsky up in here!

Reading Gould's liner notes are a trip. He's pretty much saying, hey, I don't really think that most of this material is really that good, all things considered, but it's all popular, so here we go. and then he gives examples of things in the pieces that he thinks are silly. And then proceeds to play them in such a way that highlights the very elements he dislikes. And then, the one piece that he feels has real merit ("Moonlight") he jacks with tempos and removes all the familiar "signposts" along the way, just gives a very...objective reading of a piece that "everybody" knows to go one more or less set way. Which, of course, is not Glenn Gould's way. Between the liner notes and the interpretations, I have to say that this strikes me as being, at some macro level, a comedy record, albeit a very wry and dry one, with the humor being esoteric rather than overt. Without the liner notes, I'd find it just...interesting. But with the liner notes, ha-HA, well-played, Mister Gould!

Let's try to get this thing to where it's can be paid ahead instead of behind!

Sounds like the Garzone originals are small group, the standards big band. Correct?
-
Garzone's a kick! What kind of arrangements are we talking here?

That's too long to wait on a hope. No, but if you buy it through the Amazon marketplace it doesn't really matter, you're protected if something goes wrong. And my impression on the bad ratings is that it's usually about improperly graded used items. Ah, my preferred first line of defense is to protect myself by not getting into a position where I need to be protected by the kindness of strangers... but the news that grading, not fulfillment, might be the main cause of negative ratings is both encouraging and useful. Thanks for that.

Sounds like you found a solution to a blues that used bubble bath spurs for hot lather shaving razors!
-
ha. What worries me is the positive % rating - 90% or lower. I like to avoid anybody who's less than 98%. That there are so many apparent users only increases the discomfort that I have about me becoming one in the 10% (or more) who don't leave happy, and with an overseas transaction, that's especially not what I'm looking for. Because I can't just get in the car, tank up, and go knock on/down a door. So -anybody here have experience with them?
-
Next question - who is Deastore? And can they be trusted? http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aag/main?ie=UTF8&asin=&isAmazonFulfilled=&isCBA=&marketplaceID=A1F83G8C2ARO7P&orderID=&seller=A2OW19MBCY0LY2

Have you heard this album? I like it a lot, but it is wholly "easy listening", not "easy listening jazz". As I said, I like it for what it is. Just be prepared, even at $2.61. Then again, I've paid a lot more for a lot worse, so...you can't lose, right? -
Can't have the OJC stuff if it's 10 CDs. The original was 10 CDs. DOH! Maybe in Europe now, Verve = Emarcy = OJC? Or Ojaycee?
-
Well, then, that's a relief. But I need a shower anyway! Generalmente spedito entro 1-2 mesi = Generally ships in 1-2 months? And was released on April 23, 2013? So basically still SOL, right?
-
Ok, this whole thing gets more incomprehensible...the comma on Amazon.IT gives the price as 34,02 Euro. With the comma in that place the price in US Dollar is $4,517.18, and really, seriously, WTF?, surely that comma is drunk or something, yes? No? Please? I am so not all over that, and am in fact running to the shower right now to wash off any dust that might have landed.

I have most, not all...Brown is one of those players I have never specifically sought out, but have never walked away from, either. So a box like this would be a not wholly redundant acquisition, and the purple/gold thing just screams NEW ORLEANS aka JAZZ!!!!, albeit in a whispered-like manner. This & the Kirk are two boxes I didn't have the money for at the time, and then, as the man says, BOOM! goes the dynamite with the OOP prices. So, maybe...yes? But is this OJC inclusion thing legit, or is this an attempt at jazz-reissue pownery? I bet that it don't have him & Larue reading the news, though. More's the pity.

Milestone Lee is some of my favorite Lee, with the exception of Peacemeal, which I find just too darn dry. But the rest of it more than makes up for it. Plenty more. YMMV, of course. So, what are we saying here, that this new Italian set contains all Emarcy recordings and all OJC product, - the Vogue/Metronome/Tadd Dameron/Sonny Rollins dates, all of them too? That's one big bunch of Brownie, that is!

Just wait until Michael Cuscuna signs him to Arista. Just wait. Moved this to the & Podcasts forum, because, well, it's a podcast.
