  1. Let's not lose sight of Tonny Bennet, ok?
  2. I got food in the fridge. I'd like to like or not like it from having actually read it. Not that Crouch is that important, he's really not. But Bird is, and if he does to Bird what he did to jazz in general, then I want to be advanced-warned so I can head for higher ground, where no doubt, Bird will be waiting, if in fact one can ever catch up to Bird.
  3. Lose what, the opportunity to pay a stranger to do what a friend will do for free?
  4. fwiw, I just got a new copy off of Amazon to check this out, and I get no constant popping/fluttering sound on those cuts. Some momentary points of distortion, like the VUs got pegged for a second, , yeah. On 7 & & 10, I get some weird sound like a drummer hitting a practice pad, but it's not constant, it only happens whole Lacy's playing, and its in time with the music. I did the math, and if there's just three people playing, I'm not really sure where it could be coming from (somebody's foot doing something is the only trio-based solution?), so I do think it's an "artifact" of some sort, but since it's not constant and is always in time...I dunno. But that's another issue. The one that you & others have detailed, my copy does not have. I'll not even begin to hazard a guess how that happened. Maye it'll show up on my PC or in the car...hope not!
  5. That's a lot better notion than re-creating "Walk Away Renée", what I thought this was going to be about...
  6. That's when it gets fun!
  7. Moe Drabowsky Mo Gaffney M

    Mose Allison

Mose used to hit Poor David's regularly for years...and I never found an opening to go...figured I'd get to it the next time. Well, that one's on me. Too late now.
  10. This jazz will not be good for babies, then?
  11. I think I have one-clicked on this tome, and will read it with whatever spirit I feel at the moment. We'll see where that goes. Hell, it's under $20.00, that's lunch money on some days.
  12. Does it say who did the cover design? And have you ever seen the kangaroo split-pack? I haven't, except in pictures.
  13. Some jazz is good for making babies. Or at least trying to. Some, not all. And not only good for. But still...
  14. Did not know that. But on the whole, I'd rather go to the AACM. I mean, it's nice that it's composed and all, but geez...gongs and motifs and such..on its own terms, very enjoyable, engaging, even, but...not very efficient, really. Cost/benefit ratio is skewed negatively, and I don't mean financially. It's like, ok, here you are, now....stay here. Perhaps the then-newnesss of the piece was an impediment to a really "engaged" performance, but, again...AACM. All that and more, and in "real time", no less. It's a bigger "here", AACM (and/or et al/etc) at least relative to where I enjoy my "here" being. More room. And that's all I've got to say about that.
  15. Valaida Snow? There's a story there. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valaida_Snow It was more than a close scrape...and a little more than shaken...
  16. Oh, wow, didn't realize that. It's this: http://www.discogs.com/buy/Vinyl/Olivier-Messiaen-Pierre-Boulez-Et-Exspecto-Resurrectionem-Mortuorum-Couleurs-De-La-Cit%C3%A9-C%C3%A9leste/120623572?ev=bp_titl
  17. Well now, I do believe we have some golfers here..seems like I remember that Larry shot a round with Ken Nordine, or something like that. Tell you what, if it ain't already here, it's not but a few degrees of Kevin Bacon away, that's the truth.
  18. Count me in, please!
  19. Willie & Laura Mae Jones Willie Mae Thornton Thornton Wilder
