  1. As long as you're at it (and if you don't already have it) you might want The Legendary Profile as well as Plastic Dreams. I picked it up on a whim a little while back and it greatly exceeded expectations. It's got an almost CTI vibe to it (in the good way) up to and including a thing or two with Lewis playing Rhodes, as well as this gorgeous version of "Misty Roses". The album after that, Blues On Bach is just about what you would expect in terms of "style", but it's got some deeply satisfying blues playing by Bags (well yeah, DUH!) that is perhaps more deeply satisfying than usual. Perhaps. But I do think that the early-mid 70s found Bags playing at a very high level, or at least a very mature level. I don't know that I've ever been (or will ever be able to) binge-listen to the MJQ, but...oh well. That's hardly ever the best-possible point of anything, is it.

  4. I really like this one. Seriously. Put it on your jukebox and play it LOUD. And then check out Ramsey Lewis' Beatles album. Groove like a mo. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_rpBBmlZWEI

  6. Definitely!!! -- I actually have all the Freidman Prestige dates now (including both Metamorphosis (i.e. the date you mentioned above), and also Derams and Explorations -- also with Freidman & Zoller). Great stuff!! Do you have the Zoller Embryo date... Don't know what I was thinking of when I put that album in this category, but...ooops, never mind.

  8. Judging by the # of emails I've received with people sending me the YouTube link, this thing must be going viral or something! At least in jazz terms....
  9. Removed the domain from the site name in the OP to address concerns about possible linking to the site.
  10. Karma was a bit of an underground hit back in the day, often used for/at parties, and played over and over. So a good clean first pressing might well be hard to come by. OTOH, you can get a vintage first pressing in typical shape, go home, move the furniture out of the way and move some bigass pillows in, invite a bunch of people over, fire up the lava lamp and the smoke, and BOOM - instant authenticity! For that, Side One is all you'll really need anyway, that will be the road more traveled through the years. So don't sweat condition!
  11. Not a legit site at all.
  12. Has this been confirmed?
  13. Just today, I sent in my check for me & LTB's first-time AARP membership (why not, go for the discounts, eh?). Will I get a thank-you call from June Foray? I will join for life if I do!
  14. I'd also like to know more about his time in South Africa, that whole arc.

  16. Ask him whatever happened to Billy Gault, please. As for Billy Skinner, here's what! http://photos.newhavenregister.com/2013/09/13/photos-concert-in-edgewood-park-with-trumpeter-billy-skinner/#.UjebBz9IV7c

  18. Yeah, I remember Saundra Hummer & Fran (who was actually named "Frank" iirc?, but had some glitch at sigh-up and just decided to roll with it), both fondly. Sorry to hear about the passing of one or possibly both, they were always good-spirited and had stories aplenty, good stories.
