Dude, you are on a freakin' ROLL! You must be riding on the Sun Ship! For real, I've been digging your blog for a while now, and this recent foray into documentation of people and not "just" records is much appreciated.
  4. And how many people will be surfing iTunes and say, "hey, new Mingus! CLICK!!!" I'm just wondering what parallel polls tells you if you don't have controls in place to guard against multiple voting by the same user...where's the business sense? Then again... Whatever. I'm getting the most material available in whatever format in which it is issued. It's Mingus, and prime Mingus at that. SEnd it to me on flexi-disc if needed.
  5. Combining the two polls: Digital Download = 70 (66+4) 4 CD Set = 26 (20+6) 6 CD Set = 138 (84+54) Now - how many people voted in both polls?
  6. We had World Book when I was a kid. Couldn't afford Brittanica, but the folks insisted on have a set of encyclopedias in the house. We got the yearbooks all the way into the 70s. They were very handy and evry through in subject matter, if not always in content. It was a start, and quite often, enough to serve the purpose. Didn't get Brittanica for our kids because the digital revolution was already underway. Got them Encarta ever year and Google instead. Again, purposes served. Always wanted a set of Brittanica because our pastor had a set in his office, and while I was waiting in his office after confirmation class while my dad attended Elder's meetings and stuff like that, I'd use them for homework and dug the shit out of them. Outstanding, they were, simply outstanding. Oh well...
  7. Cobblestone was Joe Fields & Don Schlitten. When they split, each took their stuff with them, more or less, or so it's been said. Fields to Muse, Schlitten to Xanadu. For the Newport stuff, my LPs list Joe Fields as Executive Producer & Don Schlitten as Producer. Lord only knows what that meant in terms of the split.
  8. That's what I see when I don't get high. Go figure.
  9. It was among the last of the Prestige 24000 series, the series of "two-fers" that set the standard format for reissues throughout the 1970s. It was soon to be replaced by the OJC line of LPs , which was a mixed blessing...
  10. Best way to find that one is on the French 'America' label LP release - which is how I got my copy. An original on the Charles Mingus label though would be a pretty mythical beast, I suspect. Or look for Prestige P-24092 - Portrait, a 2LP that also includes Town Hall Concert and has liner notes by Jaki Byard.
  11. And good meat it is. But from time to time, I'm able to get gravy too!
  12. Hmmm...on the one hand, that's 102 people who prefer a CD set instead of a digital download. On the other hand, that's an 84-84 tie as to who is and isn't likely to buy a 6 CD set. 4 CD set with a download certificate of the other 2 CDs worth of material? Hmmmmmmm....
  13. I bought the LP set, didn't have a CD player yet when it came out...guess I can hunt around and see if I need to buy one or two Candid CDs now.
  14. Wow, that's weird. It's almost like the cataract is a natural way to improve vision but it doesn't know when to stop.
  15. Silence is a weapon too.
  16. How does that work? I mean, if my eyes got better w/o glasses, Id be thrilled. But you're saying no?
  17. How many cuts was it, exactly? And what do I have to buy now to get them?
  18. Ah, ok. Thanks.
  19. Laser, right? Good luck, btw. Eyesight is precious, as I'm sure you've come to appreciate even more.
  20. I thought I remembered Candid finding a cut or two that Mosaic didn't have..or was that with Mingus? It was with somebody...
  21. I believe that Candid later released some (2?) takes that Mosaic didn't, for whatever reason. Yes to the Newport question. Same performance.
  22. I've only relatively recently gotten really hip to him & was hoping to someday, somehow hear him live. Sorry to see him go.
  23. It's not about common sense, it's about self-respect!
