  1. Cigar I've never done, but have done cigarette many a time, inspired by seeing Cannonball Adderley doing the same on alto. It's not that hard, really, not if you're in good playing shape and have your hand position and finger movements as controlled as they should be.
  2. Just wondering why people who would visit/frequent a Charles Mingus Facebook page would be any less likely to consume product that "we" would be...
  3. I'd actually not mind a digital download for the music if it was FLAC, and if hard copy full-service sent-to-my-house annotation was available as a part of the deal. But only if.
  4. Send him to the '65 Chargers then. Him & Lance Alworth would be AWESOME. Lance Alworth was one of those players who was just fun to watch. Lance Alworth was one of the main reasons I was an AFL fan instead of an NFL fan. When the guy came to Dallas for his final years, I had to soften my dislike of the Cowboys, at least when he was on the field. Just an amazing receiver. Not for nothing was he called "Bambi".
  5. Houston's the 4th largest city in America http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0763098.html and is loud, dirty and crazy. It's got all the bad points of New Orleans only ona bigger scale) and few of the good ones. It's also got a massively sprawling suburban population. Houston is one of those cities where you think you're there about an hour before you actially are. What they don't have is a gonzo sports (or other) media scene. So you might be forgiven for thinking it's comprable to Indianoplis or some such. But it's anything but. I personally don't like Houston too much.
  6. Earl Campbell makes the finest hot link on Earth, period. No grease, just meat and flavor. Lots of flavor, and even more when the sauce gets involved.
  7. 10" Blue Notes? Don't rule out a market for the jackets, if they're in halfway good condition!

  9. I don't do Facebook...can I give my proxy to one of y'all for the biggest and baddest option available?
  10. Mr. Campbell & I both register our most linkiest disagreement!
  11. Hey, what's that? Never seen it before! Good, great, essential? (Well, good at least, it's Duke!) More or less a dance album, but an Ellingtonian one, so that ups the ante quite a bit. Listening to it now, had forgotten how inventive the charts were...not Masterpieces or Indigos totally redifine the tune inventive, but...good lord, this is maybe a "mid-level" Ellington album, and still I can't take my ears off of it. So many sounds and colors, especially from the piano itself. Goodness! And the bad is really, really tight, which isn't always the case. It doesn't matter with Ellington, usually, but...
  12. I know, I know. Just never clicked with me. Tried practicing all summer once, then took it to the links, and shot something like 136 on the front nine. After that, hey...life is short. FWIW, I can appreciate the zen-ness of it all, I really can. But I've had music for that, and may yet again. If not, it'll be either fishing or woodwork.
  13. That cover art would make good Indian restaurant wallpaper ! Yeah, if that's 1964, the art director was ahead of his/her time in terms of getting psychedelic. Ever heard of either of these two (bottom, lower-leftish, very small print)?
  14. Oh, soccer. Not interested, then. Nor in golf, hockey, or too much tennis. Or anything collegiate. It's just sports, that's all it is. Besides, that name, Shankley, that just sounds.....NASTY.
  15. Oliver Hardy Thomas Hardy John Hardee
  16. You gonna trust a guy named Shankley?
  17. Meet Orson Mobley!
  18. The new Singlesnet ads are pretty damn distracting, but in a good way, even though it's still bad, if that makes any sense.
  19. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nPLzROy7-Q4 Bley starts @ 3:15. Add some moans...
  20. Sexiness, subdued swing, pleasant timbre, respect for lyrics, a warm kinda cool. I love her, and she got better with age. I saw her several times in the '80s and she was fabulous. I highly recommend this later recording: Fair enough. I've had problems with her pitch, but that was mostly the earlier stuff. The Atlantic album she made with Maynard, however, GOOD stuff!
  21. Wow, how many degrees of hell is THAT?
  22. Ron Washington on Yu Darvish's pretty nice two inning start against the Padres this afternoon: It's just baseball. That's all it is. Yeah, it'll rip your guts out, and yeah, there's absurd hypes and insane circuses aplenty, but at the end of the day, it's just baseball. That's all it is. Gotta love Wash!
