Ware was not a bad singer, but my god could the man write and produce. This one just floats all over the place with a feigned hook and finally lands on the real hook, a super hook (played by Gary Bartz, and see kids, this is how you do it, and this is why a jazz was still cool in 1977, because it could both appreciate and be appreciated all at the same time all at once), and once it does...DAMN.
"Genius" is too often overused (sic), and I'd not think to use it in regards to Ware, but "brilliant"? Yes, at times brilliant. I think this is one such case...so much sophisticated idiosyncrasy and detail all at once, not something you get all the time.
And oh yeah, how 'bout Syreeta? Yeah!
