The debt must be paid for as long as it remains unpaid. Then, after that, no more. He can then dehoove himself of the obligation. But not before.
-
The only thought is that he owes us and will pay his debt, The more creative, the better. It would behoove Mr. Lee to be aware that his karma will never be right until this debt is paid. That is what it would behoove Me. Lee to realize.

Hey, Gladys' reputation precedes her, both now and before she was dead. I'm just wondering what kind of material the label had. Might be some good stuff not easily gotten to. Or not.

Yeah, I know about '08. His one truly great season. Kinda my point... As for the WS "settling" thing...no, thanks. A debt's a debt.

This is the album I heard. "Flyin' Home" (outstanding extended Andy McGhee solo!), "How high The Moon", a blues, and one "Confirmation-ish original by John Neeley (who was in the band at the time, as were Harold Mabern, Virgil Jones, Eddie Pazant, Bobby Plater, and not Mr. Mackell!). Other than McGhee's spot, it's Hamp all the way, live and unhindered. Like I said, very predictable material, but the guy is on even more than usual, or so it seems to me, and...no complaints about that.

What was released, what might be in the archives, who owns the material now, is it worthy of consideration for a thorough investigation/reissue, etc. All this is prompted by a hearing of the Glad Hamp LP of Hamp in Europe that, although predictable in material, was totally smoking in terms of performance. And then there's something completely different, but equally intriguing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J0B8NM_F7cY I mean, hey, neither Goodman, Wilson, nor Krupa ever went here...

Are there any box bargains currently available?

A used-to-be set! -
A sad day, but even sadder would be the thought of Moody not coming back from his personal problems back when, and not living to contribute all the joy he did.

I'm not believing anything until I hear it with my own two eyes, but...although I will be glad to have him, if he does stay, I'm still needing some convincing that the guy's got that "hunker down" mentality over the course of a full season. And I still think that Greinke (a Lutheran name if ever there was one!) would be a better long-term investment, simply due to age and health. Of course, with pitchers, it's a total crap-shoot no matter what. Either way - Cliff Lee owes us two World Series victories. Definitely one. No matter how that karmic kaleidoscope plays out, that debt must be paid!

Hey, I was broke up over it for quite a while when it happened, and still can get plenty bummed about thinking "what if...". But life goes on.

Nuts it may be, but the Rangers are dispatching their peoples directly to Arkansas: http://texas.rangers.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20101209&content_id=16290334&vkey=news_tex&c_id=tex In all honesty, at this point, I'd tell him to take the seven, good luck, and then start going after Greinke with full force and sincerity. Enough!

Seven years for Lee is nuts, I don't care who pays it.

When you think about it...a rhythm section of Corea, Davis, & Elvin, in 1967...how does that even possibly suck? It doesn't, that's how!

Any info on what Jimmy Nicol dug?

I think the deal was that he wrote it all & never even tried to get it played, too busy, fatalistic outlook, etc. Seems like some of it finally got performed (once) a few years ago, but that's been it. The English Wikipedia makes only a generic, passing mention, but French Wikipedia http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=fr&u=http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oliver_Nelson&ei=8T4ATZ_lJ4WglAeLnbzJCA&sa=X&oi=translate&ct=result&resnum=4&ved=0CC4Q7gEwAw&prev=/search%3Fq%3D%2522Dirge%2BFor%2BChamber%2BOrchestra,%2522%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26hs%3DiMC%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official%26prmd%3Div notes: No idea whatsoever how "worthy" any of this material is, but I'd like to at least have an opportunity to find out...

Lennon & McCartney - the REAL Twin Towers! Or am I thinking of Sampson & Olajuwon? I always get those two, ok...four...DUH...confused? Either way...BUM-MER!

Oliver Nelson has a whole body of work in this idiom that is all but unheard.

All the Dizzy cuts from Vol. 1 & 2 came out as a 2-CD set that's still(?) in print. Can't do a lookup right now, but Google Dizzy gillespie Village Vanguard Live and it should show up. The Farrell/Stamm/Corea/etc material came out on a Jazz For A Sunday Afternoon BN CD that contained both material from Vol 2 & Vol 4(?). Again, I'm at work and don't have all my stuff at my disposal. Vol. 3 was a "West Coast" version with some good Harold Land all over it. It's all actually pretty good overall. Definitely "jams", but from a time when that still had at least potentially positive implications. Good/great players (including Ray Nance!) playing well. What's not to like?
