Miles Davis - Complete Live at the Blue Coronet 1969
JSngry replied to mjzee's topic in New Releases
At the risk of getting too arcane, are you sure that it's a Rhodes electric piano at that point and not the Wurlitzer (or any other model)? Or were you using Rhodes as the generic for "electric piano" such as Kleenex for "tissue" or Scotch Tape for "cellophane tape"? No, I was using Rhodes as a specific b/c that's what Chick usually used. Not sure if he always used it, though. Don't think he traveled with one, so anything is possible. And I do think that overall, Rhodes (the specific) was the right sound for that band and that music. -
Don't know why he moved there, though, or what he's doing, so further elucidation is definitely needed.

Miles Davis - Complete Live at the Blue Coronet 1969
JSngry replied to mjzee's topic in New Releases
The acoustic interlude is interesting enough, but it ultimately shows how the Rhodes was the right sound for that band and that music. IMO, of course. -
That's usually where it is, yeah.

I'm told he moved to New Zealand.

Ah, the small orange cards...I still have my set in my closet...might be worth something (or not, it's pretty, uh... "heavily used"), but... If Benji Molina can get a steal in the 2010 real-life postseason, Greg Lusinski stealing home in Strat-o-Matic is fair enough. Anybody ever play APBA? I was tempted, but when your allowance is 25 cents a week, you learn to avoid lots of temptations, especially after discovering, what was it...The Card Collecting Company of America (?) somewhere in Pennsylvania(?), where you could buy 7th series Topps cards (!!!!) for, like a penny or three apiece once November rolled around...

My personal reservations aside, I hope you're right. We'll see. (but as far as heat goes...Texas heat is pretty brutal. We're talking 3-digits plus humidity over 50%, routinely. Nighttime lows never below 80. It does drain you over time if you you don't manage it. Never spent a summer in Philly, but I doubt it's as bad as a DFW summer. But Houston...that's even worse...)

How many triple plays did Maris hit into in 1961 (cf. 3-12)?

Nolan doesn't share your certainty: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704104104575622921851592864.html?mod=googlenews_wsj As much as I'm hoping for that, just for what it would signify as far as establishing the franchise as, finally, one that comes to play, I do have concerns about: Age & back problemsThe rumored dislike of the Texas heat. WUSS!!! Just man up and take it like the rest of us. I've mowed lawns, cleaned attics, changed flats, and done damn near everything else in this heat longer than Cliff Lee has been alive - including playing baseball (albeit as a kid, although also albeit from sunup to sundown), and I am in no way a even semi-well conditioned professional athlete (although you can say the same thing about some professional baseball players!), so just deal with it, ok?Mister Lee does not pitch on short rest? Mister Lee seriously needs to reconsider that position if & when it becomes truly necessary. Seriously reconsider it.Regular season performance - usually good to very good, but only once great. And the whole "master of the post-season" thing took a serious hit this year. Twice. All things considered, we need the guy, both for performance and for symbolic value (plus he freakin' owes us at least one WS win!), and there's no real alternative on the market this year, but... if we don't land him (and I'm prepared for that to happen...), I can only hope that whatever staff we end up with nest season takes their humiliation in the Series as motivation to dig deep and find their inner Colby Lewis - and that Colby Lewis has indeed found his inner Colby Lewis and decides to stay there. And I hope that if we do land him, that he doesn't turn into (or even try to turn into) some kind of prima donna. That would suck even worse than losing him. If he goes to the Yankees, he'll not be expected to be a "leader". Not so here. More money and less pressure (sic)? I think the Yankees have a deal.

Wasn't "introvert" once used as a "code word" for "homosexual"?

Strat-o-matic!!!! A proud player and owner from 1966-1969, even bought the "Hall of Fame" set somewhere in there...1927 Ruth vs 1966 Koufax, a kid's dream come true (and Koufax usually won). It was like fantasy baseball only much more baseball than fantasy.

If more pitchers pitched like Bob Gibson, that might not be the case...

Now being reissued here: http://www.dustygroove.com/item.php?id=fh2wz52djr&ref=index.php Any discographical details as to who what when where? I think the label covers the why.

No. The stray note apparently shows up on only part of one run. Everything else has been fine, as evidenced by comments here, and some sampling at Mosaic, which yielded both results. Act of God, y'all, ACT OF GOD!!!!

The all "Hello Kitty" thread...

Genetics. You breed them to grow like that. -
The stray trumpet note is now being attributed to an act of God, since it is otherwise impossible to explain. Replacement discs are in the pipeline. I kid you not.

Which “Art Blakey and the Messengers” band is your favorite?
JSngry replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Indestructible was the first time I heard the Messengers, and/so that remains my favorite, for reasons beyond my control.
