  1. Oh....so it's just now reaching critical mass...ok.
  2. If he got hit today, wait until Sunday! Or not.
  3. I've noticed a marked uptick in the usage of this phrase the lase month or two. What gives? Huh?
  4. Here it is, now in .mp3 http://www.carrothers.com/comedy/julie%20london.mp3 Here's the keys to the jukebox! http://www.carrothers.com/comedyjukebox.htm
  5. I thought that the original sextet w/Coleman, Wheeler, & Preister was one of the best bands of its time, in no small part to Coleman's input/influence. My interest has waned quite a bit since those days, but respect for all concerned is still quote high.
  6. When I first started getting into House/Remix/Etc., I immersed myself - or made an effort to - in anything and everything in the genre, or looking like it might be tangentially related to it. It doesn't take too long before you start finding out what works for you (which is, of course, "good") & what doesn't. I tend to be skeptical of "dabblers", especially the ones who "only listen to the good stuff", which too often means "the established classics". Hell, any fool can buy a book or read a list or two and appropriate what somebody else says is good. Which is not to say that you can't go about it like that and still grow close to certain things, just that, for me, I prefer (and prefer to discuss/trade recs/etc with those who) have more personal "skin" in the game.
  7. Well, just my opinion, but if you can find it for a "good price", pick it up. It's nice enough for sure, but everybody involved had already done (and would do) much more "vital" work elsewhere. Still a good listen, jsut not anything to break out the Collector's OCD about, if you know what I mean.
  8. I'm at work now & won't be home until this evening, but what I saw after unzipping the files was artists names listed for about 4 or 5 of the tracks. No titles or album names. I didn't go thru iTunes for any of this. This was just opening the unzipped folder on my desktop. The info was inside the folder, next to the particular files, with the folder set to a "Details" view. I'm pretty sure you can select all the files in the folder & remove the tags there, at least if you're on a PC. No idea what you'd do on a Mac.
  9. It's good, but not great. I'd say keep it if you have it, don't get too upset if you don't.
  10. should be a speed > 2.0 Mb/sec...I'm still metrically challenged...
  11. I've got that record. I'm rich!
  12. Well, ok. What constitutes proper extraction?
  13. Yeah, I've never heard that before, that copying a disc fixes it.
  14. Lockjaw was TenorGod, so make sure this is a legit label & not a boot... Myself, I'd rather a complete Prestige/Jazzland Jaws/Griff, but this is plenty good stuff, make no mistake.
  15. DL-ed (often at a speed > 20 Kb/sec, so nice server!) & uh....not all the tags have been removed from all the files...you might wanna pull this one & put up a v2...and I'll play fair w/what I got.
  16. Dude, once you get past the lack of presence in the way Sonny was recorded, Side One of that album (the 1st 3 cuts) contain some very high-level playing...same sort of thing with Nucleus...most fucked-up material/arrangements, but when Sonny himself (or on two cuts, Sonny & Benny Maupin), that tone (fucking HUGE if you know how to extrapolate recorded sound into real sound...) & that time just take over. But you gotta get past the "surface" to get to that, and I understand how/why many people don't care about all that. It's there if you look for it is all I'm saying...
  17. Some of the most non-good records in the world fascinate me once I stop listeing to "the music" & start contemplating the "back story" - how did this get made..why did this get made, who actually put money into this thing...I wonder what happened to this guy, did he ever learn how to play better, did he go into the Army, the Panthers, the shithole, where?...so much sincerity, so little ability, where does it begin to matter/not matter, stuff like that. Even really lame 50s "muzak" records, you know that there were real people playing that crap...what was the vibe in the studio, what else did they play that day...was anybody drunk?...that bass player sure plays this horrible music very well, could it be George Duvivier...shit like that... When I put my money down, I want a reasonable chance of return on my investment. But when I'm just listening, hell, there's an angle to everything.
  18. Is the download GTG now?
  19. How does that work?
  20. Yeah, the cat recorded several time w/Jackie Mac. Good player.
  21. That looks like the Perception label, though I can't quite see. Is that right? MG Indeed it is, and indeed it is a nice album.
