  1. Are these, like, special occasion uniforms? Please tell me that they are...
  2. Dastardly!
  3. The issue is that you made a deal to keep a group private and now are going back on it.
  4. Sounds pretty untenable to me too. But still, private. I mean, c'mon, this ain't the Pentagon Papers or the Downing Street Memo. National security is definitely not at risk. You make a deal at the front, you honor it at the back, unless lives or something like that are at stake. Code of honor. I know, old-fashioned. Whatever.
  5. You ever stop to think that maybe he wanted to keep the group private & not have amateurs & hobbyists knocking about, which any time you say the words "jazz research" you are sure to get? That's not an intrinsically bad thing, and I don't think he would say that it is, But from what I can gather, he wants this group to be limited to people with serious chops and credentials, and to that I say, yeah, right on. It is his thing after all. Oh yeah, right... that's not acceptable to you, so now what are you doing? Using a public forum to discuss a private one and vent against it's "owner" using "has this ever happened to you?" as a premise. Kinda sounds like a temper tantrum to me, but hey, I'm old-fashioned that way.
  6. Sun's shining brightly now, and the board is zipping right along.
  7. Sounds logical enough, but I'm on FIOS & the rest of the web runs normally.
  8. Not complaining, mind you, no need to spend more money, just wondering if there was a correlation between the weather here and the server.
  9. No argument, but cool is not really what struck me. What struck me was just a gigantic WTF? that it even existed.
  10. Whenever it rains a lot in Dallas, the board really slows down. Is the server located in a drainage ditch or something?
  11. No. This is the Mike Fitzgerald in question: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php?showuser=101
  12. I'm shocked that he even had it in him to get out! But maybe I shouldn't be, eh? (and I mean that in a non-Canadian way...)
  13. The whole thing, melody & all. And I agree that it's "too close for comfort", but...that's not really my point. My point is that, plagiarized or not, WTF is a Bert Kaempfert record doing sounding like this?
  14. Yeah, well, I know. Fuck him anyway. This is a great album. Bernard Purdie be poppin'!!!
  15. No problem. Most likely the reference was to the impulse! version (on Coltrane), which has become a classic over the years.
  16. Say "hi!" to John & George for me, ok?
  17. The Wayne Shorter tune? No. "Soul Eyes", the Mal Waldron tune, yes, twice. Interplay for 2 Trumpets and 2 Tenors & Coltrane
  18. Well, fuck him!
  19. Ok, so I'm being a little (or more) snarky, and I do love Lou's funk bag, but... "If Ever I Would Leave You" has taken my breath away, so bold is the tempo & phrasing (it's almost in Little Jimmy Scott territory...) & "Parker's Mood" is still fucking with my head as we speak. A wholly different take on Bird, and a damn strong one at that, just not one you think about when you think about either Phil Woods or C. Sharp, ok? The rest of it is indeed funky, as in Eric Gale, Cornell Dupree, Richard Tee, Chuck Rainey/Ron Carter, and Bernard Purdie funky. With Hank Crawford on top. Available on CD. Carpe diem this funk.
  20. Last time I checked, that was how life in general works...
  21. http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...st&p=968749
  22. Hey, steady job, benefits, the whole deal.
