Ok, so I'm being a little (or more) snarky, and I do love Lou's funk bag, but... "If Ever I Would Leave You" has taken my breath away, so bold is the tempo & phrasing (it's almost in Little Jimmy Scott territory...) & "Parker's Mood" is still fucking with my head as we speak. A wholly different take on Bird, and a damn strong one at that, just not one you think about when you think about either Phil Woods or C. Sharp, ok?
The rest of it is indeed funky, as in Eric Gale, Cornell Dupree, Richard Tee, Chuck Rainey/Ron Carter, and Bernard Purdie funky. With Hank Crawford on top.
