  1. The Don Ellis side on Mighty Quinn that I bought has an EMI logo on the spine & is copyright 2005 by EMI Special Markets.
  2. Honky Tonk Angels Kitty Wells Kitty Pryde
  3. Never heard of Mighty Quinn records. Do they have a website? Googling for a name like this is likely to be unprofitable. MG http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=20141 http://www.mighty-quinn.net/Home.html It's an EMI subsiary of some sort.
  4. Dexter played soprano on Sophisticated Giant, the 1977 Who's Who In Jazz date w/Lionel Hampton, & The Other Side of Round Midnight. There might have been others.
  5. Ralph Lauren Ralph Kramden Pamela Anderson/Tommy Lee
  6. Guess I'm in the minority here. but for me, Go! is a stone classic and A Swingin' Affair is one that never quite gets off the ground and goes flying like the other one. I've tried for years to reconcile/correct that, but to no avail.
  7. Jack Bailey Queen For A Day Day Tripper
  8. Seems like it.
  9. I find the vinyl there to be priced higher than I usually care to pay. But the selection is always interesting. Their CD selection & pricing, otoh, is dangerous. I never get out of there for under $150.00, and that gets me two or more bags full of CDs.
  10. Yes. Am I the only one amused by the irony of this reply coming from a poster named Head Man?

  12. Keep an eye on that Mighty Quinn label. They seem to be hitting the PJ vaults, although there's been a decidedly non "West Coast" slant to what they've pulled so far.
  13. Well, you gotta remember - I've been shopping at HP since the mid-1970s, back when you could really clean up. (and I did...) Those days are long gone. But there's still fun to be had. We've sort of instititued an irregular series of "Half Price Sundays" in our family. We pick a different store each time out (and in the metroplex, there's plenty from which to choose), and plan a family outing around it. I go look for music, LTB looks for cookbooks, & Kristina looks for anime stuff (seems like they're getting to be quite a good source for that, too). Charlie stays home or goes to work. He's at that age. We'll eat lunch in the area, then hit the HP and any other "interesting" looking shops in the immediate vicinity, and then head home. Almost always, everybody buys something. It's a fun way to spend a few hours w/the family on a Sunday .
  14. Where do you live? Here in the DFW area, it's not tough at all. Not nearly as easy as it used to be, granted, but if you seek, you can still definitely find. Hell, last time out, I found the Bud Freeman Stere*O*Craft side in nice condition for $7.98. I've also found buttloads of Brazillian (as in from Brazil) LPs for $3.98 each, or something like that. Like I said, I usally find something of merit. It runs in cycles, sure, and if you're only looking for a certain niche of product like 1st pressing BNs or something, yeah, that stuff is not going to be there. But otherwise, there's still plenty of stuff out there on the shelves, at least around here.

I rather enjoyed Street Life. I rather didn't enjoy too much of what came after.

  17. Ain't but one, and I'll not name him becasue I have had this disc for a long time, and because he is an axxquaintance of mine. Now -is the drumer on #4 by any chance Paul Guerro?
  18. Am I the only one amused by the irony of "flexi-disc porn" being restored to a, uh..."stiffer" format?

  21. I mean, I knew he was playing regional clubs all through the 70s, but all this other stuff? Hell, I figured he came out of nowhere and went down clubbing. Didn't even know he was dead. Not that I care, but... Anyway... http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&a...33420rnac48n~T1
