  1. Impresario? Morgan Freeman, eh? O...k... Too bad Aolph Caesar's no longer with us...
  2. Ah, yes. Thanks!
  3. Who was it it who, upon meeting him, is reported to have said "That's a drag about your old men" or some such, Dexter?
  4. Lewis Nixon Jack DeJohnette Matthias Hohner
  5. Spent an entire month my freshman year in college trying to listen to that Denny Zeitlin at the Trident side on Columbia, but fell asleep every time. I kid you not.
  6. From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Haley_and_His_Comets This I would like to hear!
  7. Maybe they could lease the Helen Merill sides back. That's some pretty interesting (and on her take of "Lonely Woman", shattering) stuff. I know that they were out on Verve for a while, but aren't they OOP now?
  8. Actually , 6 of the 9 tracks from Now Hear This appeared as bonus tracks on Introducing Duke Pearson's Big Band which came out on CD in 1998 . And the 3 that didn't make it are not to be mourned too greatly, unless you're a completist.
  9. I don't know nuthin' about all that, but there's a valuable bunch of early Celia Cruz to be found on the Seeco label. Should/could make for a very worthy "Complete"-type set for somebody (Universal?) to put out. The lady was a true great and deserves to be treated likewise. But the songs aren't in English... If jazz is marginalized in America, where does that put Afro-Cuban music, or Spanish-language music in general? Admittedly, Afro-Cuban music is not "home-grown" like jazz is, but it's nevertheless a significant part of the American (and global) cultural fiber. Hell, I speak marginal-at-best Spanish, and the stuff moves me greatly.

  11. And let's not forget about all the stuff under the Universal umbrella...
  12. Ya' know, there's other jazz labels that are sitting on more never-reissued material than is Blue Note...
  13. Dick Scofield Jim Ray Hart Willie McCovey
  14. Knowing that it was Doc Pomus who wrote "Save The Last Dance For Me" makes hearing that song a deeply moving experience for me.
  15. People who don't like getting their "mind blown" in some form or fashion (and I mean that metaphorically - JUST SAY KNOW) are the enablers of What's Wrong With The World Today! I think it's high time we stop enabling them by cutting them so much slack! A question never confronted is knowledge never gained.
  16. I loved Ascension at first listen! But then again, it was 1974 & I was only 18, so what did I know?

  21. Too weird...
  22. Thank you. This setting changed completely on its own! Too weird... Oh well, it's fixed now. Again, thanks!
  23. WHOA!!! All of a sudden I go to a thread and I get the opening post and the a set of links to all the following posts in a box that says "Posts in this topic". That's it. Can't read the thread linearly w/o clicking on the link for each post. AAAARGH!
