  1. Well, he is Thelonious Monk. That's his name. Hell, for all he knew, the store owner's kid or grandkid was a student at the local middle school and had come home all juiced about hearing one of his concerts. What's he supposed to do, say, "No, the name on the credit card isn't my real name. Well, it is, but I'm not who you think I am, in spite of what my credit card says..."? What a party that would turn into...
  2. Heard you guys on KNTU this morning. Sounded GREAT! Guess I need to get with the program and order a copy... I've said some unkind things about KNTU in the recent past, and see no need to retract them. But nothing's all bad, and if you guys can get some airplay and broader exposure out of 'em, hey - outstanding!

Ok, Mighty Quinn is the label (memory lapse), and I emailed them about the possibility. Just got a reply: So get them emails a crankin'! email@mighty-quinn.net
  4. This was included in a 3 disc set titled Scratching the Seventies. Others included are Scraps, Dreams, Roba and The Owl. ← Didn't realize the set included all the music from the Saravah albums. Starting to search around for a copy! Thanks for showing the right direction! Once more... ← Dusty Groove carries it for $25. They're temporarily out of stock right now, though.
  5. You gotta feel nothing but irrevocable disgust and bowelcentric loathing for a schmuck who writes "My Way", even if he also wrote the old Tonight Show theme. A stopped clock is at least right twice a day.
  6. Did Hazen Schumacher start this way? I don't comment much, if any, on your show, but that's just because it's always so good that commentary would be superfulous. Congratulations. Here's hoping that this is the start of something big!
  7. I don't understand how this sort of thing upsets so many people, but the name Pussy Galore in the Bond flicks didn't...
  8. I've got a Japanese CD issue of that with this cover: But the OBI shows the Fontana cover posted above. Go figure. IIRC, this albm was also 1/2 of the Arista/Freedom 2-fer LP Copenhagen and Haarlem. ← And it's this Blood, not the Fontana one, that was part of the Arista/Freedom 2-fer.
  9. I think there's two different albums called Blood - the Fontana one, which you have, and the International Polydor one, which I have. My Blood only has two songs - Blood & Mr. Joy. To confuse matters further, AMG gives the track listing for the Fontana on a page that shows the International Polydor cover, and then gives a review & track listing of the International Polydor issue under the album name Paul Bley in Harlem and shows no cover!

  11. I'm not opposed to albums such as this in pricipal, but I am opposed to this one. The only even slightly "redeeming" quality is the track where McLean talks about the old days. It's kinda jive, but kinda not. The producer was Mitch Farber, a keyboardist/arranger who was doing some production work for Muse at the time. How the hookup w/McLean came about, I don't know. But it was unfortunate for all concerned. The irony is that McClean could no doubt have made a burning "street" record at the time, ala the Gary Bartz NTU Troop's work of a few years earlier. But this one ain't street - this one is some sad, overproduced, underinspired, too-slick bullshit. I'll say this about Monuments - it's proof that making a good pop-jazz record (if you're willing to admit that such a beast is capable of even existing...) ain't as easy as you might think. If anything, it's easier to make a bad one.
  12. Jimmys Grissom & Hamilton thank you for your recognition.
  13. Why is murder illegal?
  14. adoodlydoodlydoodlydoodlydoodlydoodlydoodlydoodlydoodly rock city rock!
  15. Well, this guy was Mr. Gone....
  16. They're silly.
  17. She and Joanne Brackeen are two pianists whose playing sounds to me like they gotta go pee really badly but can't get away to do so. Just my opinion.
  18. A man could fall in love with that kind of thing...
  19. I've got the LP filed under C. When I get the CD, I'll file it under the rest of the CDs I've not yet filed.
  20. Turning the Average American Driver loose on the roads with an SUV is like pumping the average Paranoid Rural American full of crank and caffeine and turning them loose on the streets of Bed-Sty with an AK-47 at 2 AM on a Saturday. It's true - guns don't kill people, people kill people. That's kinda the problem...
  21. On that Food Channel show, they showed where she had a garage full (literally) of appliances and cooking accessories that she had won in competitions over the years. She couldn't install/use any of it in her Bloomington rental house. Now, I assume that she and her husband have bought a house in Nacogdoches and that she'll be finally able to set all that stuff up. Talk about a Faustian bargain!
  22. I dunno, the cover photo looks kinda blurry...
  23. That's a quarter note, of course...
