  1. Fun? Yeah, sure, until your head hits the brick wall for about the 500th time... Actually, all of Trane's work is like that for me. I can't go there while playing, because it takes over completely (or at least tries to), and I find myself tryiong to "play Trane" more than trying to "play Jim". Listening, of course, is a whole 'nother matter, and that leaves a "spiritual" influence that works a lot better for me than does a specific stylistic one. Maybe it's just a hump I need to get over, but jeez, I look around, and far better people than I have been trying to get over that same hump for the last 40 or so years, and to what end? If it was going to happen, shouldn't it have happened by now? I'm playing the odds on this one.
  2. Transition (as originally issued), for purely personal reasons. That album changed my life.
  3. I think you can blame the source tapes for this one...

  5. Penetration. Can't say that that's what I listen for as much as it is what I hope to feel. Make all the jokes you want, but that's what I'm after - a meaningful penetration into my world. I have a world, thank you, and I can't say that it's particularly empty, at least not so empty that I'm willing to let anything and everything into it "just because". You gotta give me something I can USE. The quickest routes to getting in the door are usually through tone (individually or collectively) and rhythmic substance (which only sometimes comes in the form of a "groove"). Those are both qualities having to do with the vibrational, and it's the vibrational that penetrates the walls/barriers/etc. Once the barriers are broken, we can negotiate what, if any, meaning the experience will have (or can possibly have), but without that initial penetration, it's like water off a duck's back. The older I get, the more water there's getting to be, but I ain't dead yet.
  6. This guy's the Wilt Chamberlain of pedophiles.
  7. Oh yeah - check your PMs.
  8. B-All, you are SO my hero, dawg. I was afraid I was slipping more than I already sometimes do. Much love for this, and propso supremo.
  9. OOOH! A PICTURE DISC!!!!!
  10. Yes, it's a joke. See this thread for context: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=19982
  11. Damn!
  12. Well, now I'm confused. I was thinkng it was a saw solo by Roy Brooks, but then I remembered that Brooks ain't on that album, so now I don't know. Either somebody erased a Brooks saw solo off of some other album, or else they erased something else off of this one. If it was the Lee side, it wasn't a major solo, just some "coloring" or something. Sorry for the forgetfulness.
  13. A long life certainly not wasted. Congratulations are every bit as much in order as regrets.
  14. I could be wrong, but I think that that's one where you need the LP to get the original music since they either erased or attempted to mix out some "extraneous" playing on one tune and didn't tell anybody. Like I said, I could be wrong about that, though.

  16. Hey - Gerard didn't just reverse the melody. He reversed the changes as well. All the way down to ii-Vs becoming V-iis. And I thought that "Giant Steps" was a bitch...
  17. But it's MONO!
  18. Tango was run by Angus Wynne, iirc. Two of the Tango frogs at their adopted home: There were 5 or 6 of them originally. HUGE fuckers, all lined up above the club entrance, on a theatre-style marquee or some such, as I recall. Understand that all the frog's found a home when the club closed, but the ones in Carl's Corner are the only ones still on public display. Carl's Corner itself is a rather, uh, "colorful" dot on the Texas landscape> read all about it! http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/A156430 http://www.centredaily.com/mld/centredaily.../printstory.jsp That's the "official" news. Unofficially, rumor has it that you can get anything you want at Carl's Corner.
  19. You probably know that WW was around long before he started appearing on TV.
  20. Find the CD, get the bonus cuts, and get on with it.
  21. Krow Kid in action!
