  1. Nu-Grape was the bomb, but I don't think they make it anymore.
  2. You've never seen Dr. Strangelove? Speaking as a friend, I urge you to remedy that ASAP!
  3. Ok, so I finally got hold of a copy of the UNDER GLASS/I PRESUME 2-fer on British MCA, and it's great to have those sides in toto rather than as incomplete parts of compliations BUT... It says that it includes the four earlier sides the group cut for Trend as bonus cuts, and it doesn't - it only contains two: ""They Didn't Believe Me" and "Georgia On My Mind". What is left out are "Peg O' My Heart" & "My Baby Just Cares For Me". Are those two cuts available anywhere on CD, compilation, OOP, whatever? Or even on an LP from the mid-70s onward? Bonus Question: I keep reading about four Hi-Los Starlite albums. All I know of is these two (UNDER GLASS/I PRESUME). What are the other two? Are they full albums, repackagings of other material, or what? A song listing of these other two albums would be appreciated if possible. as I'm trying to put together a complete collection of their pre-Columbia recordings, which I think are on the whole superior. As always, thanks in advance!
  4. I've not yet seen this here, but I guarantee you I'll check it out when I do. Thanks for the headsup!
  5. Was I being silly just then? Silly me. This whole thread is silly, really. Fun and heartfelt on all sides, but ultimately silly. Nothing is being proved except the limits of the human imagination, and the folly of reveling in that limitation. Denying the possibility of the unexplainable is silly (are any of us so fucking smart that we can authoritatively state where "reality" REALLY ends? Yeah, SURE you are.. ) , and so is claiming to be able to authoritatively "explain" it ("peace that passes all human understanding" kinda rules out being able to explain it in rational terms, dig? It might indeed be a peace based entirely on myth and superstition. If that's gonna bother you, then leave it alone! Beides, if you claim it's unexplianable, stick to your guns! ) And I'm silly for even commenting on it. BOOGABOOGA!!!!
  6. People can be SO silly sometimes!
  7. I've got SCORPIO on LP and like it muchly. Yet another one here who has never heard SYTHESIZEER SHOW. But I dig Bley quite a bit anyway...
  8. Got some frequent flier miles, a few days to spare, and good technique? It's not too late!
  9. That rustling sound you hear is Guy Williams turning over in his grave...

    Andy Bey

Andy Bey is great. Is that good enough?
  11. Be thankful it wasn't the men's room! At least there weren't frogs on it...
  12. Yeah, I found an LP about a year or so ago, and it's MY-T-Fine indeed!
  13. I've heard it too, and although I wasn't exactly "knocked out", I heard an individual voice trying to get out and sometimes succeeding, and that's always a good thing. Funny thing - before I knew anything about Mr. Kofi or his bandmates, my very first response to the mucic was "They sound British", not in any way derogatory, mind you, just that that was the "flavor" of the music, which again points to individuality. Good thing, that is. I also think I'd like to hear Mr. Kofi and crew on an all-original program I'm just about Monk-Tribute-ed out these days to be honest with you.

    You know who's REALLY annoying?
  15. BLUE SPIRITS is far and away my least favorite Hubbard BN (favorite is by far and away READY FOR FREDDIE), but it's still a good record. To me, it shakes out in retrospect as a transition towards the more arranged and "commercial" material on some of the forthcoming Atlantic sides. But it's done better here, imo.
  16. Anything good that happened once and happens again. Anything not good that never happens again, or at least not repeatedly. Anythng good that only happens once and is not replaced by something not so good. Anything not so good that is the best that it's going to be. Specifics on all the above are too numerous to list. I'm easily pleased, I guess.
  17. Bev - What's a "JCB"? A I share your hatred of those sticky strips on the top of CDs. The way to get around them is to unhook the front of the jewel box from the bottom, unsealed end. Then you can open the jewel box vertically, remove that strip wuite easily, and the reassemble the jewel box. A bit cumbersome the first time or two, but it doesn't take too long to get it down to a near-reflexive act!
  18. Yes, about as pointless as asking THAT question is!
  19. Jay Migliori's a wild guess from somebody who's never even heard the thing.
  20. Yeah, I know, but for me, thos textures works best at slower tempos, and there aren't that many of them. The faster ones tend to make the textures sound "sloggy" to me. I know they're not, but... "Godchild" and "Jeru" are about as fast as those textures speak clearly in to my ears. Maybe it's the engineering, maybe it's me.
  21. You ever hear Archie Whitewater? It was a horn band, not a person, and they made one album for Cadet. Sam Burtis played trombone, Joe LaBarbara played drums, and everybody else is STILL obscure. But they had a lot of vibes solos. Now THAT was different!
  22. James Brown in South Dallas. or, on the other side of the pleasure scale... O.V. Wright in East Texas. When I leave home, I tend to just keep the player off, my ears open, and listen to the music of the sounds of places I've never been.
  23. Why do I sense that the some of the same people might be responsible for both acts?
  24. What happens when she wants sex that's like SUN SHIP? Are you ready?
