  1. Lace plays on two cuts. Elsewise it's Mark Johnson, w/Tarik Shah on bass, and Ronnie Matthews (in QUITE good form, btw) on piano.
  2. Anybody else heard about this? Apparently it's the "latest" wqeb fad, or insider thing, or whatever... http://www.thisisnotporn.com
  3. http://www.dustygroove.com/cgi-sys/cgiwrap...th&issearch=yes 4th item. It was in stock last week when I ordered it, so put your name on the list and watch it come back. That's how they seem to do it. Listened to it 4x in a row last night. Was kinda indifferent at first, but it kept getting better each time, especially when it dawned on me, halfway through the second time, that Braith wasn't so much playing Braithophone (although there are two "pure" tenor features on here) like a saxophone as much as he was playing it like a slice-and-dice Monk-ian piano. That's when the groove really kicked in. Your mileage may vary, of course, but if you dig Braith's unique musical concept (and that concept extends FAR beyond just the two horn thing), I think you'll want to check this one out.
  4. She couldn't get the monkey off her back? Where's my plunger? (wah wah wah wahhhhhhhhh)
  5. Woody Herman had a hit w/it. Singing too!
  6. I always dig it when people just die by laying down, going to sleep and never waking up, No torturing illnesses, gruesome violence or anything, just "Time's up, guess I better go. Later." That's the cool way to die.
  7. And that's too bad, becasue I have no reason to believe that this will NOT be a perfectly fine record on its own terms. I've always like Anita Baker for those "quiet storm" moments in my personal life.
  8. I thought she was already dead....
  9. Are you sure you're not me? At least on this thread?
  10. Kinda like taking the Queen to a whorehouse, ain't it?
  11. Any idea why it almost always happens on Friday nights?
  12. 'Cause there's no business like show business!
  13. It was on a Doctor Jazz LP called NEW MOOD INDIGO. The group was a Mercer Ellington Setet. 1-5-66, w/Chick on piano. It's a brief (2:56) take by just the quartet of Paul, Chick, Aaron Bell, & Louis Bellson. The date and the nature of the recording make me wanna think that this is the very first recording of Chick's classic, and that it might have come very shortly after he wrote the song. almost as if he asked for a moment to get a reference tape of this new song he'd written. No matter, it's short but sweet.

  15. I've run everything, and nothing gets found. Repeatedly. This is a new variant of Vx32 or something, and it gives itself registry access. Or so I'm told. It's only a nusiance, really, no harm done (yet). The firewall/IE Updates seem to keep it at bay. But the thought that I keep deleting it, its asscociated files, AND it's findable registry entries, and it keeps coming back REALLY bugs me, even if it never actiually does anything. BOO!
  16. My point exactly. Haven't heard this particular set (yet), but have heard a fair amount of other material in the same genre and of the same vintage, and "frivilous" is not exactly the word that comes to mind...

Her voice sounds pretty, uh..."weathered". That's also how she looks on the cover. But ti's not too bad of an album in spite of all that. She's always been kind of a freak, and so it still is. But she definitely show signs of, uh... "living hard".
  18. This is odd...My original post has been lost, butthe thread remains. Anyway, for an album that's not yet been released, it sure seems that everybody's heard it and loves it: http://www.bluenote.com/detail.asp?SelectionID=10344
  19. Bring it on!
  20. Would that have been Chip or Ernie?
  21. Man, it's that new Sub-Aquandial mode that Public Enemy found back in '87. Next to be fashinable is the Listerinian half-ho' tonal in retrograde/bellgrade.. Those Linda McCartney board tapes need just a LITTLE bit more circulation first. But you heard it here first, ok?

Teena Marie has a new album out, btw.
  23. Yeah, you hip to his take on "Windows"? Somebody (I suspect Stanley Dance) renamed it "Ugh" But it sure is nice!
  24. Can't you get a neighbor or somebody to feed the hamsters so the wheel doesn't stop turning?
  25. Ratonratonraton!
