  1. At the risk of sounding like a nutcase, I was literally moved to tears of joy and excitement, the first time through this, the way the structure started from the rootsiest of forms and gradually built, and then, when it had reached maximum traditional density began to abstract itself by removing the obvious portions and just leaving the highlights, then expanding them into more and more abstract forms until the structure and its surrounding environment were one and the same, a total merging of self-specific and universal. Then, unity having been achieved, it was time to go, so poof! The story of Trane's musical/personal life/odyssey/whatever, (and all of ours, eventually) told in a little bit o'compruter generated graphicosity, the profound made playful. Like I sad, I was deeply moved. The second time through, I called my son in to watch it, so I kept my lachrymosity to myself. His response? "Hey, that's pretty cool!" Six of one, half dozen of the other.
  2. No. But I prefer to hand out hints and such at my own discretion, because I'm an egotistical bastard who enjoys the power trip. I'll say this much, and nothing more - the CD that you cited is not to be heard on this test.
  3. I'm slow sometimes...
  4. Sorry. that's Barbara Feldon, who played Agent 99 in Get Smart, a late 60s Mel Brooks/Buck Henry NBC sitcom starring Don Adams that was a spoof of the whole James Bond thing. A major childhood crush, she was.
  5. Not at liberty to say, but I don't hit on my friends' chicks, so it's a moot point. Sorry.
  6. I kinda dug this one: An M-Base (the REAL fusion of the 80s and beyond, imo) offshoot, but not so's you'd notice. And Screaming Headless Torsos was a gas! "Blue In Green" as a metal ballad with Goth lyrics? Works for me! But only this once.
  7. Gary Willis was from Pine Tree, about 10 miles from Gladewater, but I didn't meet him until I was home from college one year. We jammed for a cuppla summers and then he came to NT. I called him for a session, and the drummer wanted to play Horace's "You Gotta Take A Little Love", a boogaloo. Well, Gary got about 5 choruses into it, stopped playing, and screamed, "I can't play this fucking surf music anymore!" packed up and left. And that was that... But hell, the guy went on to play with Wayne Shorter!
  8. 99 every day would not be a bad thing...
  9. We're pouring billions of dollars into Iraq when right here in America we have people who have never eaten tamales? How fucked up is THAT?
  10. Can you register under multiple aliases?
  11. I just got done reading that Charles Lloyd interview, and now I'm feeling like every day is the birth of a new experience, so every day's our birthday. Om out, homies.
  12. Yeah, it was F-Troop. Not even REMOTELY 50s. BTW, did you know that Forrest Tucker & Milton Berle are rumored to have had... Uh, never mind.
  13. So do I. Shrugs, you got mail.
  14. Don't worry. What goes around comes around, usually.
  15. It all went downhill after Steve Gadd, just as it all went downhill after New Coke...
  16. That would have been a somewhat appropriate comment for Disc One, Track Two. And that's as much of a hint as I'm giving about any of this. And that's enough for me to guess that it's a soundtrack to a cartoon. No. But straighten your swing...
  17. I really enjoyed reading Shakespeare back when I had a lot of time to read. But only with a well-written commentary to help explain all the arcane references and linguistic quirks. Nothing like good liner notes, it seems.
  18. http://mollyann.com/fifties2.htm One of these things is not like the other...
  19. Me and Dad in the days before computers, cable, and polyester:
  20. TAMALES!!!!! I'm a pork man, myself, but will go beef, or even "sweet". The Lovely & Talented Brenda (forevermore to be known in these parts as the much-simpler-to-type "LTB") is a vegetarian, so does the black bean thing to her fart's, er, heart's content. Anybody got any particular favorites? Us being Anglos and all, we, at this stage our lives, have to depend on the kindness of friends and neighbors (both directly and for retail recommendations), so we don't have any recipies to share, unfortunately. But if anybody has a good/unique/etc one to share, by all means post it, please. I figure LTB's going to be retired in another 10 years or so, and she LOVES to cook. I, otoh, love to eat, so it's all good, even the cleanup, which I do once or twice a week, whether it needs it or not!
  21. Wish I could make it. Reckon David Boykin is involved?
  22. Dana, yours, in an awkward bit of routing brought about by attempting to give everybody an equal load of distribution responsibility, is coming from the East Coast. Wacky, I know, but you should be getting yours in the next day or so. If you don't have it by Friday, email me, ok?
  23. Enough titular humor, this is a family forum! Some EXCELLENT comments so far, let's keep 'em coming. Remember, unless you want it to be, "guessing" is not as important as honest opinions. Now to completely contradict myself... Some of you might find the arranger on Disc One, Track 5 to be somebody you know. Pretty "characteristic" of his sound...
  24. What can I say? Seemed like an appropriate song title for the end of a Blindfold Test disc...
  25. Not if he brings Evan Parker along. That cat ain't no stringbean! Although, if Dodds shows up, you'd be really safe...
