  1. We're we all SO cute when we were kids!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  2. But give me a mature/maturing Joni Mitchell over any of it. Style AND substance, thank you.
  3. Sir Drippy Dribbleton - The Daily Double Show (Recorded LIVE!!!)
  4. Ok, I forgot about Bobby Durham. But he's fine except when he does his 2 & 4 thing which he does often enough, but not enough to be a deal breaker. I'd rather it be somebody else, but this a document, not a proposal, right? Otherwise, yeah, almost done with Disc 1 and feeling some love (and as soon as I say that, here comes Fucking Bobby Durham's nonsense again. But as soon as I say that, he stops). Scott is her true self (cf One For Me) and that's nothing but a delight. And there is no George Coleman "squealing". A few altissimo notes, but all in the service of melody and changes. Nothing Eddie Harris wouldn't do, only Eddie had a bit more control over it, like "classical" type control. All told this is a wonderful release for historical reasons (never again think of Shirley Scott as "just" a "Soul Jazz" organist, she was a SOULFUL musician, period) and more importantly, just a damn fun record, period.
  5. Doyle Butters and The Cabbage Heads - Sticks, Patches, and Life In General
  6. Haven't played the records yet, but Tom Warfield make some imo very astute comments about the dance impulse in these players' music. And me, I like Ernie Andrews. So I'm seeing no downside going into it.
  7. Or, if you just want church... That tenor player blows his horn like Billy Harper. How about that...
  8. Cannonball's raps are indeed standalone classics. But covering them? Sampling please!
  9. Deadlines, probably.
  10. I prefer Nat's, but yeah, for the complete thing... both.
  11. Nat's was on Capitol. Cannons was on Fantasy. Nat's is about general personalty traits. Cannon's is about general sexual traits. Different music/compositions on each.
  12. It's not about rules, it's about the functionality of the architecture.
  13. I'd hate to add to the confusion!
  14. If everything is a hook, then where is the hook?
  15. ASCAP Andy Capp Helen Keller
  16. I dunno, I like the essentially pianoless results. Lee & Warne sound REALLY freed up. Those two Revelation LPs are Biblical. Revelation indeed!
  17. Bock/WP started releasing Shankar records in 1962. Not the very first American label to do so, but pretty much was, and multiple releases to boot.
  18. Wee Willie Keeler Dick Hitt Aint Bea
  19. Brer Rabbitt Joel Chandler Harris Happy Chandler
  20. Squealing? George Coleman? That doesn't sound accurate?
  21. Assuming it still survives, how about the complete unedited Konitz Five Spot date with Warne?
  22. R Richard Bock went in on "Eastern" music on World Pacific, starting in the early/mid 1960s. Mostly Indian, and even more mostly Ravi Shankar. But there were also some Japanese things, such as this. They were all/mostly leased from the countries of origin, no ersatz "impressions of" or anything like that. The inside of the gatefold has a good listing of the releases. I keep my eyes open for them at a good price. Haven't been disappointed yet, except maybe with the Shankar Charly ST.
  23. Stalina Vanderglans - Your Face Or Mine?
