  1. Some of the cues on I've Got A Secret are a bit unexpected. Some, not many. But enough. If you catch an episode of The Match Game/Hollywood Squares Hour (as tragic as it sounds) that she's on, a whole new world of six degrees will open right before your very eyes
  2. Norman Paris led the band on I've Got A Secret on CBS.
  3. Smooth where it counts.

As well, the only one of the original Bernstein Bears to have a successful adult career.

  10. But let's keep it modern! And local(ish)! Don Sebesky opened the door, MES comes all the way in!
  11. Ok, right here are some bad motherfuckers: and here are some more:
  12. Roy Brooks was a saw-reflex thing, sorry. The liners don't mention a saw at all, but it is Waits' composition. And iirc, he also played saw? Or not?
  13. Remember Charles McGee? He's on some cuts here. On the whole, a good "local" type record.
  14. I would hope that the saw remains on the master tape, or more accurately that the master tape with the saw remains. And that whoever's doing the Toned Poets series knows the difference. It's kinda weird to know a record one way for decades, then get excited about it finally coming out on CD only to find that they've made a fundamental "change to one of the cuts, one of the more memorable parts, actually.
  15. and he's still alive and playing!
  16. Gene Ammons, start to finish, all of it. ALL of it.
  17. But - Billboard has a playlist: https://www.billboard.com/music/latin/ultimate-cinco-de-mayo-playlist-9371475/ and so do these: https://www.austinbestdjs.com/wedding-tips-blog/20-cinco-de-mayo-must-play-songs/?wpmeteordisable=1 https://www.thebash.com/articles/cinco-de-mayo-playlist
  18. If you come across the LP version, grab it. The CD, or whatever reason, jacks up a Roy Brooks saw solo. Can't remember if they erased it altogether or just remixed it down to the point of inaudibility. Whatever, it leave a gap in the music that just doesn't sound right, imo.
  19. You are likely to be pleased with your latest acquisition as well!
  20. Virgo Vibes is a Herbie Mann production. Ayers was one of his most popular band members and Mann produced all three of his Atlantic albums. Trying to imagine Herbie Mann (or Roy Ayers) doing business with Strata-East (and vice-versa)...not having that imagination at this point? Still, it's a mighty fine record, and a reminder that Atlantic was still wiling/able to make "that kind of record"...at least once. None of Ayer's other Atlantics had this kind of consistency.
  21. Marlow Dreft - One More Glass
