I remember Greg trumpeting SACD before it was even on the market ! Of course, just previous to that he thought we should sell all our CDs and only buy JRVGs.

I think that Peter Bernstein is very underrated. He doesn't even get his own entry in the AMG to Jazz. I saw him a number of times when I lived in NYC and thought back then that he had a future. His new CD, Heart's Content, on the Criss Cross label is highly recommended. It includes Peter Bernstein on guitar, Brad Mehldau on piano, Larry Grenadier on bass and Bill Stewart on drums. It is a nice swinging style that doesn't overwhelm or just rely on licks.

Almost all of The Three Sounds albums have been issued in Japan as TOCJ and JRVG releases. Even their Verve and Mercury sessions are available as Japanese releases.

I picked up the Julian 'Cannonball' Adderley release last Sunday at Borders. It comes in a digipak with OBI. Both the session and the 24 Bit mastering are excellent. If you are a Cannonball fan you won't go wrong purchasing this one.

I have all 8 of her CDs and I like them all. They are all very similiar. She has a nice relaxed style. For starters try Lynne Arriale Trio - Live At Montreux. I saw her live last year and enjoyed the show.

Russ Freeman/Richard Twardzik - Trio TOCJ 9347 Issued: 01-11-28 24 Bit Remaster by Ron McMaster Excellent recording and remastering.

We sampled the Blue Train SACD yesterday. As a demonstration of the quality of SACD this one will not win over any converts.

The August 27 JRVG releases will contain the following additional tracks: Jimmy Smith-Softly As A Summer Breeze +4 Three Sounds-It Just Got To Be +2 Three Sounds-Out Of This World +2 Donald Byrd- Free Form +1 The other 6 JRVG releases do not contain additional tracks.

I watched "The Animatrix" this afternoon. It is only available on DVD. It is both computer generated and anime. It is 8 different stories with 'The Second Renaissance' divided into 2 parts. It is both an extension and background to 'The Matrix'. 'The Second Renaissance' is a pre-Matrix while 'Beyond' takes you to the outside limits of the computer program. 'The Final Flight Of The Osiris' is a pre-Matrix Reloaded. If you are a 'Matrix' fan it is a fun 90 minutes.

I fully agree that the JRVG is the best of the Blue Train reissues. I don't have any problem with the narrower stereo of many of the JRVGs. I don't know if I will pick up the SACD. Is it mutichannel? Too many of the older recordings in mutichannel sound unnatural.

What posting are you referring to? It is not on this thread.

Weizen's Miles Davis CD cover posting above reminds me that this is the 4th time that this JRVG has been released. The first 20 JRVGs have all been released twice, some 3x and some 4x. When I asked Toshiba why they kept releasing the first 20 JRVGs and none beyond that they replied that these were very popular. I would venture to guess that some of the other never re-released 250 titles in the series are just as popular. They were thinking of re-releasing titles beyond the first 20 but nothing is firm at this time. They are concentrating on releasing their 100 new JRVG titles over the next year.

I love the Jimmy Smith JRVGs. 'Midnight Special' was the very first jazz album that I ever bought and the JRVG version is marvellous. Jimmy Smith 'At Club Baby Grand' and 'At Small's Paradise' are a couple of my favorite JRVGs. I say bring on more Jimmy JRVGs. More! More!

Thank you for the kind welcome here including the PMs and Emails that I received from old BNBB friends. This is certainly a friendly place.

And our winner is Late with the first correct answer to our JRVG Geek Facts Quiz. Very Rare JRVGs: Lou Donaldson-Lush Life-BCD 0053 Sam Rivers-Dimensions And Extensions-BCD 0054 Note that they do not have TOCJ #s. They were issued in 2000.
-
I fully concur with Lon. The Miles Davis is worth every penny.
-
See, there are always new JRVG Geek Facts. Do I have you and Lon stumped? I am amazed--JRVG aficionados like yourselves! No, they are not 'Blue Note Years' compilations but distinct Blue Note 1960s albums. They do not have TOCJ #s.
-
Just one more JRVG Geek Fact for the day: Did you know that there were 2 JRVG titles that were only available as part of a contest but that when not enough people won the contest they sold off the remainders?
-
Thanks, you have created a very attractive BB. Excellent job. Incidentally, when I registered there were 298 members so I should have been #299 but I am #307. Your Board Statistics say there are 300 members. Your numbers are like the US Budget. They don't balance.

I put one item on offer this AM just to test the water and I got 6 replies and sold it in half an hour to an old friend from the BNBB. Felt like I was in a time warp here. BTW, Lon, Lonson and now Jazzbo? Identity problem old pal? B)

They will still release the 100 "new" JRVG titles over the next 10 months. However, as of last week, they had not decided to re-release any titles from the original JRVG series after TOCJ 9029.

I received some advance copies of the JRVG re-releases (TOCJ 9001-9029). The OBI is different than the original blue and yellow or the second pressing red and blue. It is blue and red strips on the front but the back is exactly the same as the original release OBI including the original release date of 98-7-23. The disc is not a reprint of the original release but is a repressing of the second pressing with the Swing Journal Award imprint. The paper enclosure is a reprint of the original enclosure. In conclusion, some of the elements of the first pressing, some of the second pressing and a partially new OBI. Apparently, they have not decided to repress any more beyond TOCJ 9029.

Following the demise of the BNBB I was lost in the wilderness. I had registered at the AAJ but it just never caught my fancy. I found it dull. I had received some invitations to take a look a this Board but just never got around to it. Yesterday when Hans posted Tanno's listing of July JRVGs on AAJ it only drew 23 views and 0 replies. On this OBB the same posting drew 153 views and 6 replies. This latter group are my kind of people. New JRVGs are a cause for celebration (Sorry Hans) not ignoring as on the AAJ. So while it took me some time to find my way here it is good to see so many familiar names and the topics look a lot more interesting. The aesthetics of the Board are also easy on the eye. And to all those people who have sent me e-mails asking whether I will offer again any more imports as I did on the BNBB--the answer is yes. Give me time to organize them and I will post them here on the OBB.

I received a brochure about a month ago listing this new batch of JRVGs. It did not include City Lights and I posted same on another BB.
