  2. potential GF for one of our peeps here if you bid right: theres actually a 45rpm (ending soon) of the two "stop driving us crazy" tunes by Benny Golson (Lee Morgan, Art Blakey, et al).....it looks legit, offical United Methodist Church of Wash DC issue. im not getting it, although some lucky fool sure is, for a whole lotta dough, sorry i dont have a link right now, ebays not loading right, right now
  3. Hank is absolutely on the KILLIN' FLOOR on this. just heard "There's A Small Hotel". It's a shame he didn't get his own album till '55.
  4. whoops formatting error, i will add i just got a WLP 45 of days of wine/roses b/w speak low from one of his RCA victor albums- never heard this stuff
  5. wow, can anyone copy/paste or recount this whole thing? facinating...... from jazzwax.com--- CADENCE: You were In the Basie band for such recordings as Basie Meets Bond, Basie in the Beatles Bag. What was that all about? LOCKJAW DAVIS: Money. It's always money. CAD: Somebody telling him what to do? LD: That's right. CAD: Roulette Records? LD: No. That joker Willard Alexander [the renowned big-band booker]. Basie was in tax trouble. CAD: Because of gambling? LD: No. Road managers, people like that. CAD: Which road manager? LD: They had 2 or 3 of them. Each one took a little more, to the point where the accountant got in trouble. Instead of sending the money, he was beating it. In fact, 2 or 3 years ago, they gave him some time. CAD: The accountant? LD: Yeah. The (Basie's) wife found out who was really beatin' him all those years. All they got was tax trouble. I know way back then when I was in the office as an agent, the Internal Revenue sent all the agents a list of different audits. If you had any of the audits below, [the list said,] notify us first. So they could garnish the income. And Basie's name was on [the list]. In order to get him out of this bind, he took a lot of funny, funny jobs, funny recording dates. We did a tour with Tom Jones. It had nothin' to do with jazz, nothin'. But the kind of money they gave Basie, it made it worth it for Basie. But not looking ahead at his future, Basie in jazz. Now they couldn't do that with Duke Ellington. CAD: Because he controlled his own thing? LD: But with Basie they could. That's what caused [those albums].
  6. i was thinking maybe that was the -copyrright- title....
  7. hi, why have i in the discogs, read it as Afreaka (Mission Eternal) isnt printed like that on the orig. liberty lp. is this a song cedar recorded mult. times (under 'mission eternal'?) he recorded UGETSU mult. times.... thank you

  9. its not that difficult. full disclosure from the labels of contents of vintage stock.
  10. once again in regards to the unreleased Cadet tape, this problem isnt some state secret, its a freaking babyface master tape. full disclousure now. somone here must have a contact. its not the Kremlin., its cbs/sony (or whtvr)
  11. look ill tell you a little more, this man said he befriended Face in the late 60s, he said by 1970 or so face was real sick, he didnt know what he had but Face was definetly not well. he then reiterated again how live, it was an aboustely nother dimension. NOTHING I MEAN NOTHING YOU HAVE EVER HEARD OR THOUGHT YOU HEARD ON RECORD, matches, what happened at a Baby Face concert. he kept driving this home.
  12. am a new fan of the last few years, but the man is obviously very very special, i love his music. i have his debut lp i got for .50c in a plain disco. jacket and i also have the atlantic lp he did that was cut in CSG Stereo . also watched that great docu. on him on youtube
  13. oh, regarding the unissed cadet (argo?) tape, if it was stolen we'd prob have a better shot at uncovering it than if it remained in the vaults. these labels need FULL DISCLOSURE NOW. its 2012. info on the whereabouts of this tape is not going to affect sales of L.M.F.A.O mp3s. i promise.
  14. look, ill tell you this. a yea or two ago i had some email contact w/ an individual from chicago. he knew Face personally, and he kept reiterating a point over and over in all his emails. i will now share it: he said that there is absolutely -NO- recorded example, of just how intense, the Babyface live experience was. knew and saw him around around 67-68. he said Face live, was something to behold, aboustely trancendent
  15. why is the art pepper/marty paich on tampa included- was that released by charlie parker records at some point. just where do they get their source material from anyway for something like this. i know its a simple transfer, but im all for all this stuff being convienently available like this. like the other week i saw some small 4 cd box set: red garland on prestige. it was like 12 albums of material. they would make great gifts
  16. 78 rpm acetate discs cut by transition....what would they have, like 3 min samples of future 12'' releases? can you reproduce that here for usand scan that if there was a watkins at large one, this would be a significant discovery to add to the list of known hank mobley 78 rpms, of which i own none
  17. thats interesting how he reappeared for that 2001 karl denson album
  18. really sorry, get well soon
