very deep, deep groove, blue note 1507 mono with the "P", RVG etched in the deadwax, NY USA labels. i know the "original", had lexington ave and others had the 63rd st address: so my Q, is- did BN label discs LATER, after they pressed a mess of them, or is this truly a later pressing, with all the same charateristcs of an original. its DEFINETLY deep groove with the "P" symbol-- has anyone ever seen a copy like this, cause i sure just got one

omg, im listening to a very nice liberty UNA MAS w/ vangelder stereo stampers, more than anything i notice how real and lifelike tonys tom tom drums sound. ive noticed this with billy higgins as well on a lot of stuff, like on cornbread. the drums on cornbread are as powerful as in the air tonight by phil. in a way cornbread was kind of the in the air tonight of its day: when master higgins goes BAM BAM BAM, you know that one part im talking about, twd the end of the song b4 the outro

ok ok i dont even think liberty did copies of this, but the bluenotes w/ the UA labels, definetly did. ive seen em on ebay, now i found one in real life (didnt get it yet). it is not vangelder stampers. some other initials are in the deadwax, its definetly not the same stampers. i just got a new hank mosaic set, the sound is...um....i dont think i can listen to jazz on cd anymore. unless its like fusion or synthesizers, or maybe xrcd. but i wasnt about to plunk down 30 for this just yet, espically since i just splurged on the new mosaic for my b-day last month. so yea, has anyone heard the UA press of this-- sure, its significntly lesser generation than the mosaic, but hell, i really dont know abt it-- all opinions welcome, thanks

how did RVG make houseparty
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez replied to chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez's topic in Artists
so even though its stamped RVG, it was only pressed by RVG, not recorded by RVG? was rvg busy that day? why were they still using other stuidios like manhattan studios? i was originally wondering if because it was a compilation, one of the sessions had to be DUBBED one extra time....u know -
how did RVG make houseparty
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez replied to chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez's topic in Artists
they prob had to split these lps all up cause the songs were so long. i have no idea why they did it also for hank -
since side A for example is from two different sessions, do you think that it is a lower generation copy than say an album like, well i dont jknow, anything that is all from the same session, do you think rvg had to do something different is this covered in the cd-rvg edition liner notes?

he would of made a shitload more albums and who knows what the next one would be. his very last two release, were on a whole nother level. right now im listeing to 1st pressing CARAMBA, which is one of the last of the old, by live at the lightohose he was off the deep-end. that is not like any other jazz. is caramba the 1st full on calypso lee morgan, or lee morgan and billy higgins, ever did?

jazz gigs back in the day/mic-ing the bass
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez posted a topic in Audio Talk
my grandpa was telling me back in his big band in the early 40s they would ALWAYS mic the bass and most of the time, the piano, to speakers, and i thought: really!?!? i did not know that, at like birdland in the 50s n stuff, when u would go, would the bass be mic-ed, or like the bib band was playing huge dacnes and parties and birdland is small, right so what i wanna know is HOW OFTEN BACK IN THE DAY WAS THE BASS (and piano) MIC-ED? i guess is what im aiming after -
that sounds pretty arrogant of him, im sure he knew nothing of your work with them! I did an interview with Zappa and the Mothers for Down Beat at about that time (they were playing the Ravina Festival). Not only was he an asshole, but it also was clear that some members of the band (Don Preston, for one) thought he was an asshole. that is also interesting dave james, i think youve told me about that before,...i think........amazing location, amazing concert!
