  2. i warned u! http://www.stevehoffman.tv/forums/showthread.php?t=96428&highlight=diament+copy+error
  3. barry diament says: When I created a CD master at Atlantic, we kept the original and sent clones (digital, 1:1 copies) to the plants around the USA and the rest of the world. The record clubs also received clones. For all intents and purposes, the CD masters sent to all the plants were identical. This should not be confused, however, with the discs each of the plants produced. As I have been saying since I heard the first CD made from one of my masters back in 1983, CDs from different plants sound different from each other. Sometimes CDs made on different lines within the same plant sound different from each other. And none sounds indistinguishable from the master from which it was made. To be clear, if these disks (with identical data) are properly extracted to computer hard drive, the sonic differences go away; the differences are only evident when the CDs themselves are played in real-time, i.e. with a transport or player. So, if you listen via a player, different pressings from the same master might make a difference to you. If you listen via computer, after extracting the music from the disc, the pressing doesn't matter. As to record club pressings, there is no reason to think these would be worse. In some cases, they might be better. Columbia Record Club pressings tended to be done at DADC, the same plant that also did non-record club pressings. Hope this helps. Best regards, Barry
  4. if u are having a houseparty and just want some music for the crowd, go ahead fine but i dont see how in any other circumstance a digital transfer is going to be pleasing- stick with the original prestiges
  5. doec cadence still actually sell them?
  6. i have no idea about hdcd, wish i did, cant wait to finally experience that-- but as far as redbooks go, if you pull the files off a cd and recopy them to a cdr you will make a superior sounding version of the music-at-hand, sounding closer to the "master" (whatever was used to make the cd)......pulling the files off the cd and recopying them eliminates the errors that are present from the original manufacturing

  11. thats in the deadwax of my Remember/Dig Dis soul station 45....so playstilite did the lps, and this audiomatrix, is another company, taht did the 45s?
  12. scored a RVG STEREO engraved VOX clasical lp today in the 50 c. pile (thanks to Chuck N. for hipping me to these!) what is up with the linernotes, (see thread title)....DOCTOR rudy?? huh??? so i take it rudy didnt squeeze the orchestra into his little house, right- this is one of those offsite recordings.... or did rudy record these at all, or did he just master them?!? it also has the playstlite (sic?) "P"/"ear" & deep groove anyways the one i got is Mendelssohn- italian symphony/////Tchaikovsky- Capricio Italien, Orchester der Wiener Musikgesellschaft- Edouard Van Remoortel (cond), yea so unless they flew the entire Orchester der Wiener Musikgesellschaft to englewood cliffs and squeezed them all in there on top of eachother, my guess is vox got this tape, and just gave it to rudy to put on wax..... \ my other Q, is, are all Plastylie albums associated with vangelder, or can you find "eared" lps from other non rvgs things....what else should i be looking for?
  13. well the lineup, is STELLAR: blue mitchell grant green james spaulding pepper adams............
  14. ive had *THE* weirdest, lovehate relationship w/ this bn album..................the lineup is like this ultimate quinessential allstar lineup, but ill never forget how i was SO disapointed w/ the album after 1st listen, (i guess after being familar w/ all bn ups UP to that pt by the musicans infvoled, i guess)...i actually RETURNED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! few yrs later copied a friends cd, more years after that, rebought the cd (its a mcmaster lateperiod not 1988 im pretty sure, white face---) but now i have a stereo 1st pressing and suddenly now im in love with it again. i cant believe i never realized how good song 1 side 2 SHAKE (sam cooke) is, the AND SATISFY song is the single i think, (if there was a single, i mean, ive seen this one on bn comps...) and yea i mean everybody doesnt do crazy solos every song, its more about the ensemble, arr by duke perason. i guess the letdown is the album doesnt have one specific really crazy james spaulding or grant green or pepper adams solo. i mean hell this is not lee morgan city lights or whatever (hes on that right) AND WHATS UP WITH BOB CRANSHAW, is this his 1st or one of his 1st albums where he utilizes fender bass? I WONDER WHAT BLUE MITCHELL OR GRANT GREEN THOUGHT OF HIS ELEC BASS N STUFF, GRANT MAYBE RECORDED WITH EL. B AT AT PT BUT DEF. NOT BLUE MITCHELL, I THINK, I DONT KNOW WELL IF I MEET BOB IN A FEW WKS WHEN HE COMES TO TOWN IM GONNA MAYBE ASK HIM ABOUT THAT
