  6. The gigs i attended were to say the least energetic, he was there with a huge band, don't remember how much but i know the set was crowdwd to the max. It was basically high paced Cuban-African rythms in which he mixed improvisational piano runs. Very free feeling and free flowing and you never what was going to happen next. One of his singers was dancing and shaking her thing so much throughout the show that i feared she was going to have an heart attack. It was one of those performance that the band actually wore out people who were there to dance.

  18. You pretty well described my feelings about Carter also. Last time i saw him was when he was on his funk thing, gotta say i enjoyed it. Have not bought a Cd of his in a while. Think my latest is Chasin the gipsy. Your story about the Montreal jam session reminds me of another session that i was unfortunately not able to witness first hand but was told to me by reliable sources. That once Carter and Chris Potter shared the stage and both guys decided to show their stuff and started a cutting contest, while Carter was trying to pull all the stunts in his typical fashion, Potter kicked his ass just by playing lyrically.

  22. . on a different note, i'm tempted to pick up something from the Basso Valdambrini combos. can anyone recommend some albums? which are the really outstanding recordings? In an amusing way this thread is an offspring from a thread dedicated to Valdambrini http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...;hl=Valdambrini
