In our local newspaper in the opinion pages, someone suggested that athletes take a page out of Smith and Carlos playbook and show some kind of support for Tibet as they get on the podium. Any athlete who would have the guts to do that would earn my admiration for the rest of my life. -

.... even if she wasn't, show some class, they are really very few people who should really be considered ugly and the last thing they need is have fingers pointing at them reminding them about their looks. -

"John Zorn is not a demanding man. The veteran alto sax blower is a frequent performer at the Montreal International Jazz Festival. He's not one of those kooks who insist that the orange M&Ms be separated from the rest of the batch and be placed in a silver bowl in his dressing room. Nah. But the jazzbo is particularly cranky about one thing in Montreal: smoked meat. In his contract rider a few years back, he simply requested Schwartz's smoked meat for a nosh prior to show-time. Instead, he was sent smoked meat from a lesser dispenser downtown--one of those faux delis who would dare to meld smoked meat and pizza and, yech, spaghetti in one dish. Zorn was not amused. In a fit of carnivorous rage, he chucked the bogus smoked meat against the wall of his hotel room. And he refused to perform until he was given the real deli deal. His show was held up for nearly half an hour. His fans were growing restless. But jazz-fest founder Andre Menard finally saved the day by rushing out to the deli himself and delivering sandwiches from Schwartz's. He also defended Zorn's actions. "I demand the best in music for my festival," Menard explained. "And he demands the best in smoked meat. Life may be full of compromises, but not when it comes to smoked meat. John was perfectly right to be picky. I am, too. Schwartz's is king. There is no substitute."" Here's the link from this text http://hocemolinakafu.blogspot.com/2007_01_01_archive.html -

Greatest name in Montreal Expos history must be John Bocabella, the late P.A. Claude Mouton had fun with that name. -

She's way better looking than Mia Hamm -
Just saw a great documentary about her life, a lot of great footage, with interviews of the lady set in different eras. What impressed me the most besides of course her outstanding singing skills was her attitude. Even in old age, she didn't act like a quiet old lady, she in a way had more machismo than most man ever had. Really an iron hand in a velvet glove

I remember a streaker during a game, think it was a UEFA Cup final match, as the second half was about to start, a guy dressed as a ref came to the center of the pitch took his clothes off and showed a red card to the real ref. -

This PPV, right? Then I'm not watching it, as I certainly am not paying $50 and no one else I really know well gives a crap about the sport. Sad, really. I'll bet on Marquez, just because he seems to hit harder. Pacquiao is by the way the harder hitter, anyway boxing has unfortunately gone completely the PPV way and is extinct from network tv. Only HBO and Showtime carry important boxing card nowadays. One way to reduce the costs is to go to a sports bar where they will make you pay for an entrance fee, in my place it's five bucks plus drinks and food. Those who elected to find a way to watch it saw a beautiful and exciting fight. -
Anybody will be watching this big fight, tell us how you're going to watch it, home with friends, at the bar etc. Any predictions ? I'll take the plunge think that Pacquiao will win it , Marquez has changed his style for a more offensive oriented one, he punches more but hit a lot more also which i fear is because he may have been slipping a little. He may prove me wrong but i don't think it will work against Pac Man. Pacquiao on the other hand seems to have improved his boxing skills and has showed more patience and versatility against Barrera that he was lacking in his first fight against Marquez. For those who did not see the 1st fight, Pacquiao almost stopped Marquez in the 1st round knocking him down three times. Marquez managed to survive and as the fight progressed he used his superlative boxing skills to neutralize Pacquiao's buzzsaw approach. The fight went to the cards and the 3 judges agreed to disagree as one had it for Marquez, one for Pacquiao and the last one a draw. 4 years later, thanks to dumb boxing politics, they finally meet for the rematch.

After going through to the earlier sets where there was a lot of discovery and musical styles that i never paid much attention to, i'm now listening to artists that i'm way more familiar and accustomed to hear. I have a thing for well thought out compilations and this is one of them. There is something exciting when you see that the compiler has taken the time to carefully the pieces and put them together to make a grand ensemble. Listening pleasure guaranteed with entertaining pieces from the beginning to the end. A nice complement to the other great series Les Trésors du Jazz that i strongly recommend also.
