  1. To get back on the original, it is well thought but for me there is a flaw, for my part i have little to no interest to check out a thread to know who died lately, so to me the better way to be aware of someone's passing is via a thread in the honor of that person.

  3. Saw last thursday Tremblement de fer (ironquake) a play on words on tremblement de terre (earthquake). It involved 40 musicians in an old silo in the old port in Montreal. Very fine music in an unusual setting starring a buch of great local artists such as Bernard Falaise , Jean Derome, André Leroux many others and of course the composer Pierre labbé. Going to see tonight Nicole Mitchell with Shirazette Tinnin and Renee Baker.

  7. If i get this right, he blames the Beatles because numerous band trying to do similar stuff than them did actually sucked. If that's the case they are plenty of great groups and great musicians who destroyed music because every great originator will leave in its footpath a bunch of subpar imitators, wait 'til he gets to Nirvana and the awful grunge scene that followed.

  9. Saw a little less than two weeks ago, Dave Burrell with William Parker and Mike Wimberley. Fine show despite the poor acoustics and even worse piano. Burrell has an intriguing technique almost using the piano as a percussion instrument at times. Saw this monday a gig that did make proud my Dutch nickname as i saw the trio BraamDeJoodeVatcher , the group should find his way in my best of 2009, great musicianship with beautiful compositions and at times quite catchy tunes. Near two hours of great music. If they come in your neighborhood, it will be worth the trip.

  20. Haden is well known for having a prima donna attitude, at the jazz fest he was a guest in the invitation series done that year by John Scofield and he just left during the show leaving Scofield without a bass player, if my memory serves me well, well known local bassist Michel Donato was sent to finish the gig.
