  1. a Interested in the Hawksworth. Can't send a PM for some reason.
  2. Don is really unravelling, huh?
  3. Which years do I have to choose from?
  4. Martin Denny/Si Zentner/Les Baxter - Exotica Suite - Liberty (mono)
  5. Various - Black California - Savoy 70s twofer of Central Ave scene bebop, circa late 40s, early 50s (mono).
  6. Elisabeth Waldo - Rites of the Pagan - GNP Crescendo (stereo, orange label)
  7. Mort Stevens's "Hawaii Five-0" Capitol album has finally come out on iTunes.
  8. You guys scared me for minute. I thought that the Donnas were breaking up.
  9. This thread should be moved to the Politics forum. I am offended.
  10. With the 45 rpm album becoming an audiophile format, it's a matter of time before we come full circle and are back to the days of 78 albums. I've written elsewhere: 78s from the 1950s that were recorded on tape and pressed on modern vinyl sound AMAZING when they're played with the right stylus. Also: Not exactly jazz, but I've managed to find intact 78 albums of Cugat's Rhumbas (Columbia), Sam Hoffman/Les Baxter "Music Out of the Moon" (Capitol) and Rozsa's "Spellbound" (forget the label).
  11. It's really amazing to me that, if I can believe Amazon, as late as 2010 most of Chico's 1960s Impulse albums with Gabor Szabo STILL have not made it to CD. This stuff was huge with DJs at least 15 years ago if not before. Some real luddites must be in charge of reissues. The mind boggles.
  12. By the way: The show directly after Step Outside - Surface Noise - features a segment called "Lounge Laura's Lounge." On this week's episode, the Lovely Lounge Laura will be spinning several tantric textures tracks that didn't make it to my show. You can listen here, after 1 am, 9/2/10, EST: http://www.wmnf.org/programs/364 It's a two-hour show; you need to scroll to the beginning of the second hour (which opens in a new window) to hear Lounge Laura's Lounge. Enjoy!
  13. The show will be archived for one magical week before disappearing forever into the ether: http://www.wmnf.org/programs/144
  14. Welcome back, sounds great!!!
  15. I still have my Dad's 78 album set of "The King Cole Trio" on Capitol, with the pink cover. 4 discs, 8 tunes.
  16. TTK will be hosting this Wednesday's edition of "Step Outside," WMNF 88.5 Tampa, this Wednesday, Sept. 1. The focus will be "Tantric Textures." As you know, many of today's hottest pop acts, such as the Byrds, Beatles, and Rolling Stones, have been incorporating "eastern" elements into their recent hits. Today's aging jazz and easy listening artists are responding by growing out their sideburns, chest hair, and combovers, and getting hip to the psychedelic psounds of today! This Wednesday's "Step Outside" will feature many of these faux-eastern masterpieces. "Step Outside" airs on Wednesday nights, 9-10:30 PM EST. www.wmnf.org
  17. Agree Porcy. Mono playback is essential though. If you don't have mono switch on your amp. you place a Y-adapter patchcord someplace in the chain to sum to mono. $5 at Radio Shack - will make a big difference in the sound of mono LPs.
  18. Do you have a mono switch on your amp? That's a big help for playing mono LPs. There are different eras of mono LPs. By a certain point - I want to say early 60s - the grooves of mono LPs were cut the same way as the stereo grooves, so the cartridge should not be an issue. The cartridge/stylus is more of an issue with earlier mono LPs.
  19. Fred Katz - Little Shop of Horrors OST - Rhino (pseudo-stereo)
  20. I think that football will be cancelled in 2010, the teams transcending their differences and agreeing to frolic together nude in fields of daisies.
  21. 4) Relative lack of gorgeous, scantily clad female models on the covers of recent LPs.
  22. You really need to include some selections from Frank Comstock's "Project Comstock: Music from Outer Space" and Russ Garcia's "Fantastica." Send me a PM.
  23. Yeah, but all 2,500 copies have that rare bonus track...
