  1. Olatunji - Soul Makossa - Paramount Manu Dibango couldn't be everywhere at once.
  2. Candido - Drum Fever (Polydor) Funked out early 70s session.
  3. I have not. But the instruments are buried so far below the vocals on most of those mixes, they would have had to have reduced the phantom center channel (usually vocals) to bring out the instruments. Maybe that's what they did.
  4. ????? Unless they brought the vocals further back on the new stereo masters, it is exactly the opposite.
  5. I really love those Oblivion Express albums. Do you know if BA's daughter is the singer in this lineup? I've seen some video of the two of them.
  6. Every album and single right through Hey Jude and Revolution was "consciously mixed for mono." The White Album was the first one in which GM and the group were actively involved in the stereo.
  7. He was a student of the Schillinger System, along with Vernon Duke, Benny Goodman, Tito Puente, George Gershwin, and the great Leith Stevens.
  8. Thanks!
  9. Most if not all of the music in my iTunes consists of higher quality (i.e. larger) files. Is there a way to, for example, create a playlist of stuff you want to put on an iPod and globally transfer everything as mp3 files, so you can fit more music?
  10. It's interesting that clothing is arguably the only form of design that has not gone through a post-modern phase, at least in terms of public acceptance.
  11. Great sound, it was quiet and you could understand all the lyrics. Good song selection, nice overall mood, virtually no cheesiness.
  12. Nelson Riddle & 101 Strings - Bridge Over Troubled Water - Alshire The perfect companion album to the Les Baxter 101 Strings album "Que Mango." The sound of today's young couple drinking Martini & Rossi on a yacht with Angie Dickinson and Burt Bacharach.
  13. Morricone - La Donna Invisible - Dagored Dinner is served.
  14. Manfredo Fest - After Hours - Daybreak Thee perfect album for today's wine-drinking, cheese-eating progressive young couple, whilst cooking dinner.
  15. WE MISS YOU! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
  16. While I understand your point, this kind of marketing can be useful, even for informed listeners whose knowledge of certain sub-genres may be lacking. For example, I discovered certain artists through the "Legends of Acid Jazz" series whose records I many not have picked up otherwise. Not sure if this qualifies as a "gimmick," but I am annoyed by these alleged "Blue Note" compilations that contain music originally released on Blue Note, Capitol, Liberty, Roulette, Pacific Jazz, and others. I'm glad that interesting compilations can be made from all this music with minimal legal issues, but it misrepresents the "Blue Note" brand.
  17. Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes - Collector's Item - Philadelphia International
  18. Eddie Kendricks - Eddie Kendricks - Tamla Featuring "Keep on Truckin'" which I have not heard in AGES.
  19. Konrad Elfers - Funeral in Berlin OST - RCA (black label stereo).
  20. Thanks. I'm a sucker for that late 60s/early 70s Philly sound.
  21. I first had "Monk's Music" on a mono LP and thought that was the only way it came out. Years later I picked up the CD so I could listen at work. I had the headphones on and was surprised it was stereo; but almost right away, I noticed the lack of bass. Can anyone tell me more about these K2 releases? How many are there, do they typically use the mono masters? How do you quickly identify them?
  22. The Delfonics - The Sound of SEXY Soul - Philly Groove featuring "Ready or Not" and "Somebody Loves You."
  23. Does anyone know if they fixed the vocal flubs on the stereo version of "Please Please Me?" (the song, not the LP).
  24. Completely agree. As for the albums afterwards, all bets are off.
