  1. Didn't Miles cover one of the Thriller tunes during a career lowpoint? Or was it another piece of dated 80s pop?
  2. So the first two CDs have minimal laser beam wear?
  3. Currently spinning this: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...mp;#entry934011
  4. Just gave it a thorough scrub on VPI and took it for a spin. 3 bucks well spent. I'm sure all of you vinyl junkies have encountered an occasional LP like this: It looks so bad you're afraid to play it, much less pay money for it, but it turns out that most of the marks are superficial and plays surprisingly noise-free. Aside from a little noise between tracks and an occasional low-level pop, this plays through amazingly quietly. Thanks for talking me into buying this!
  5. You have to see the cover up close. Not only does he have a combover, but the art department actually enhanced his combover. Instead of giving him more hair, they just gave him a better combover.
  6. I always thought "Taking of Pelham 1-2-3" would have been much better as an Italian Polizia flick. Now's your chance...
  7. Wardell Gray - Central Avenue - Prestige (twofer)
  8. Thanks all. I picked up a less-than-pristine copy for 3 bucks. Most of the marks look superficial. I'll clean it on the VPI and report back.
  9. Was this Prestige album ever reissued on LP or CD? Either as an OJC or a 70s twofer?
  10. Christopher Scott - Switched on Bacharach - Decca (stereo) THIS is how the future sounded, circa 1969.
  11. Did anyone look at the list of target CDs from that link? How reassuring to discover that the best sounding CD technology was applied to the worst 70s and 80s corporate rock. IMHO, of course.
  12. Willie Bobo - Feelin' So Good - Verve (mono)
  13. Cal Tjader - Along Comes Cal - Verve (mono)

  15. Various CDs from the late 80s and early 90s. Yes, I've now tried them in different players and that seems to help. Thanks!
  16. For all of the drawbacks of vinyl, I can say this: I have never pulled out a clean LP after many years and had it randomly skip all over the place. Wish I could say the same for CDs. I'll come across something that I haven't heard in ages, pop it in, and - not always, but more often than I'd like - the thing randomly starts skipping. Has anyone else encountered this? I can't imagine that I'm doing anything beyond the usual with these things.
  17. Just saw one of my favorite episodes, "Walking Distance" with an amazing Bernard Herrmann score!
  18. Jim Helms - Kung Fu OST - WB
  19. Oh yes, there's something ridiculously heart-wrenching about that theme, which plays in well with the ever-questing nature of Caine's life in the series. Agree. The composer was Jim Helms. Not sure what else he did. The Kung Fu album is worth seeking out if you don't have it.
  20. How would you describe his solo style? I've heard him only in group settings. I love his mod/big band stuff on Capitol from the mid 60s.
  21. On a semi-related topic, I always thought the theme from "Kung Fu" was really beautiful. I have the soundtrack album on WB, featuring Caine's bald head (perhaps in a move to capitalize on Isaac Hayes's success).
  22. Mr T - It will be a 45rpm EP I believe with an instrumental version of the music from the 'Dr Terror's House of Horrors' movie. Tubby and his band of 1964 vintage (with Jimmy Deuchar and Alan Ganley) appear in a 15-20 minute segment - I have the movie but have not heard the EP yet (Trunk haven't released it but there's some advance information on the Trunk Records website). Limited to 666 copies when it does appear. Thanks. I'm a sucker for record covers like this. If the music inside is good, all the better!
