  1. Sure. Budget labels, in general, tended to release substandard recordings pressed on substandard vinyl and packaged in substandard cover art. Occasionally, by the law of averages, they would accidentally release a good or great record.
  2. Crown was a budget label that released some ghastly records, but have these amazing gems spread across their catalog, including the greatest album ever made - "Jazz Heat, Bongo Beat" by the Latin Jazz All-Stars.
  3. I would say that's 3 categories: 1. Tin Pan alley tunes 2. Show tunes 3. Jazz tunes composed by genuine jazz musicians There is a pretty significant gulf between show tunes and tin pan alley tunes, generally speaking. I would recommend Alec Wilder's fascinating book "American Popular Song, 1900-1950, if you haven't read it already.
  4. Jackie McLean - 4,5,6 - Prestige (mono) 70s reissue as second half of "Contour" twofer.
  5. Thanks, NOJ, but that's not what I'm asking: How can I globally DELETE , DUMP, FLUSH, EVERYTHING that's on my iPod - NO BACKUP, as in GONESVILLE, baby - and then RE-SYNCH to what I CURRENTLY have on iTunes?
  6. Dexter Gordon - Landslide - Blue Note (stereo)
  7. What I meant was this: I synched my iPod when I first got it with my iTunes content. My iTunes content is different now. Is there a way to globally and quickly dump everything that is on the iPod, and re-synch it?
  8. Is it possible to a) Globally dump everything on your iPdod, and then b) re-synch to what you currently have in iTunes?
  9. It turns out Arturo O'Farrill and the Chico O'Farrill Afro Cuban Jazz Orchestra are at Birdland the same night, so that's where I'll be. Thanks for the replies!
  10. In Europe, 50 years, until 'Love Me Do" and "PS I Love You" turn 50, at which time copyrights will not doubt be extended. In the US, Mickey Mouse sets the limits. Copyrights will continue to be extended to cover Mickey Mouse, although there were a couple of Americans prior to Mickey Mouse who also made significant contributions. That's copyright law in a nutshell. Stupid, I know, but that's how it works.
  11. And if these albums, which I have, were being presented LIVE AT IRIDIUM I wouldn't have started the thread. Thanks for the replies. I'm sticking with samba jazz at the Zinc Bar.
  12. They have former Miles band members and also Indian musicians playing sitar and tablas. It seems like it could go either way. I'd like to hear from someone who's seen them. They have an album; the Amazon reviews are generally good but not all are. They're playing the same night as a jazz samba group at the Zinc Bar, so who knows what I'll do. I'll probably end up at a friend's place listening to LPs and drinking red wine.
  13. They are playing a few dates at Iridium and I'm tempted. Can anyone recommend them or dis-recommend them?
  14. Jackie McLean - Lights Out - Prestige (mono) 70s reissue as half of "Contour" twofer.
  15. Didn't you get the restraining order? They must have had our old address on file.
  16. Have you forgotten about that lap dance already?
  17. Some of us consider presentation, style, and aesthetics as important components of the artistic experience.
  18. I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything. The thread asked for our Mosaic wish lists; My wish is for the original cover art to accompany their releases. Since we're indulging in an exercise of fantasy, why should my fantasy be any less valid than yours?
  19. If the lack of original cover art weren't enough, here's another reason to avoid Mosaic.
  20. Yes, a great record. I've had it for years and sadly passed up a cleaner copy in a moment of short dough and quick decisions. Oh well..
  21. 1 through 5: Original cover art.
  22. Cannonball and Coltrane - Limelight (stereo)
  23. Be There at Five: Conversational Music for Cocktails - Mercury (mono) Arrangements by Glenn Osser. A Shearing knockoff with great cover art. All these years later, I'm playing the LP for the first time...
  24. Interesting. Thanks for the info.
