  1. There are many, many, many people who don't give a rat's ass about jazz regardless of what the cover art looks like. Why is it hard to understand that some jazz listeners prefer to listen with the original cover art?
  2. Whatd'ya find?
  3. Herbie Mann - Wailing Dervishes - Atlantic (stereo) Gary Mac - Today - Skye Johnny Mandel - Harper OST - Mainstream (mono) - for Paul Newman.
  4. When they use the original cover art, I do. When they shrink it to a microscopic size, or don't include it at all, I don't.
  5. An interesting observation: Over the years, I have always asked women which (famous) men they find most attractive. Of course, different people have different tastes, and one woman's ideal would inevitably be lost on another. However, I have found that, nearly across the board, regardless of ideal "types," nearly all women LOVE Paul Newman. The only other famous person that even comes close to him in this category is Johnny Depp. Paul Newman made a hell of a lot of great films, and just last weekend I listened to Kenyon Hopkins' s soundtrack from "The Hustler." A great actor and a great guy.
  6. OK, you're right: there SHOULD have been smiley by that post, because I was certainly kidding when I said "jiveass." I'm not knocking the quality of their product. However, aesthetics are more important to some of us than others. The thought of a label corralling together an artists' rare releases and NOT including the original cover art comes off as incomplete to me. It would only make me want to find the original albums that much more. And I simply find Oscar Peterson an odd choice for Mosaic, compared to others they've reissued, simply because there's a huge rack of OP albums in every jazz record store. That's all. On the bright side, I don't buy these things, so be grateful that you have less competition. I won't buy, though, as long as they don't include the cover art.
  7. You must shop at a different location. Specialty labels shouldn't reissue stuff you can find at the A&P checkout. But then again, I don't patronize this jiveass label, being that they don't include the original cover art.
  8. Amazing what Mosaic decides what to and what not to put out. I've never paid more than a dollar for an Oscar Peterson album, and I have quite a few in pristine condition. Why not buy something rare on Mosaic and get your Oscar Peterson fix at the Salvation Army? The mind boggles...
  9. It's only $7 or $9 to get in. Would you like to go and post a review?
  10. I seriously thought about it, but it's too far a hike and too much $$$ (the plane and hotel, not the concert).
  11. If it was from a movie and uncredited, it is likely library music.
  12. Yeah, but that's mostly his schmaltzy stuff. The concert in Arizona will feature music from "Tamboo" and "Sacred Idol," two of his greatest albums. Conducted from the original scores.
  13. In this case there were no songs deleted for the Kimberly issue.
  14. MAJOR Small Faces freak here.
  15. This album had previously been available on the World Pacific label with different cover art (WP 1405 mono, WPS-1405 stereo, under the title Perfect Percussion). The Kimberly issue came later. And I beg to differ about this not being a "good record." It is a VERY SOLID exotica album with more jazz content than many exotica records have. Wes is definitely in more a support mode here, but he does take some solos. The arrangements on this record are really nice. The only thing it has in common with Command records is the Albersesque cover art. I have a room full of jazz albums and probably 100 or so exotica records. This one is unlike any in either section. Interesting arrangements, nice tune selection, great playing. What more could you ask of a record?
  16. There are a lot of fellas in musicals. Trust me, I've slept with most of them.
  17. I'm surprised he didn't take credit for the Russian Revolution also, and name-drop about sipping cognac with Lenin during the planning stages.
  18. I have it on vinyl. Most of it is moody 1950s oddball jazz. The two songs with cow and dish in the titles have sped-up chipmunk voices and are like Ken Nordine-esqe nightmares. I think it has been reissued on CD, and I think you'd like it.
  19. How about sharing some with us now, as a teaser for your upcoming book?
  20. Any fans aside from me? I listened to the uber-rare LP for "The Hustler" today and was again blown away. There is hardly anything by him on CD. What is up with that?
  21. The Great Kenyon Hopkins - The Hustler OST - Kapp (stereo) A criminally - pardon the pun - hard to find album.
  22. ??????????????????? What's it like?
