  1. Mostly early 50s dates. Were they still recording on disc at this point? When did they go to tape?
  2. Anyone know the answer to this question? It has puzzled me for some time.
  3. Did you play anything from "The Hi Los Happen to Folk Music" on Reprise? Great cover art.
  4. On a slightly different topic, a significant number of Verve/Clef/Norgran sessions from the 50s are remastered from "disc sources." What's the story here? Were they recording directly to disc later than most labels, or were master tapes lost or destroyed?
  5. Don't forget Machito and Chico O'Farrill in the 1950s list.
  6. NOJ, this isn't working. When I click on the icon, I don't see a choice either for "Options" or "Manually manage music and videos." Is there a step I'm missing? I see: Open Get Info Open Enclosing folder Copy iPod Eject iPod Rename iPod Remove from Sidebar Automator Disable Folder Actions Configure Folder Actions Attach Folder Action
  7. Various - Sexopolis 9 tracks from the French funky 60s pop scene
  8. When I think of Verve, I first think of the groovy stuff from the 60s, like Cal Tjader, Gary McFarland, Willie Bobo, Lalo Schifrin, Getz/Gilberto, Walter Wanderley, etc. I think Verve in the 60s hit a perfect balance between "real" jazz and the groovy, international, jet set now sound.
  9. THANK YOU!!!!
  10. George Shearing - Latin Escapade - Capitol (pastel rainbow, mono)
  11. Henry Mancini - More Music from Peter Gunn - RCA Living Stereo (black dog label).
  12. In at least 3 different cities I've lived in - in the NE and SE - Kingston Trio records are/were available everywhere for 25 cents an armload. Okay, I find that very hard to believe, but it's no skin off my butt. Exaggerating about the 25c and armload part, but serious about the availability for very low dough.
  13. Les Baxter - The Complete Capitol Exotica Albums. Too bad, because this one would sell out instantly.
  14. In at least 3 different cities I've lived in - in the NE and SE - Kingston Trio records are/were available everywhere for 25 cents an armload.
  15. I just got an interpods also, and I need halp. I don't understand how to delete individual tracks from it. Does it just synch with iTunes, or is there a way to customize the playlist separately from what's on the iTunes playlist? HALP!
  16. Horace Silver - Silver's Blue - CBS (mono)
  17. Eddie Bonnemere - Jazz Orient-ed - Prestige (blue label mono)
  18. Presenting Edu Lobo - Philips (stereo)
  19. In the US you can get their complete catalog at any thrift store!
  20. Various - Blue Brazil Vol. 2 - Company pretending to be "Blue Note." (stuff from EMI Odeon in Brasil).
  21. MURDER INC. on the Time label IS AMAZING!!!
  22. Come Spy With Me - Hugo Montenegro - RCA (mono)
  23. Irving Joseph - Murder, Inc. - Time (stereo) A jazz soundtrack to a non-existent crime film.
  24. It would be. It's sad that a bunch of squares have accidentally been given the final word on which "jazz" albums are worthy of being reissued. That is why I buy used vinyl. I don't want to buy into the narrow tastes of a bunch of overweight guys who live in their parents' basements. I don't think MC is square, but he IS a purist. And you're not. And I'm not. And many of us aren't, I think. But that was and remains the Mosiac business plan, and maybe it's the only workable business plan that was, and remains (?), possible for such a company. But that's all it is; a business, not something to be revered. Hence this thread. MG Fair enough. Posted after drinking wine and watching "That Mitchell and Webb Look."
