Howard Roberts - GUILTY!! On 11 Separate Counts of Being a Dirty, Funky, Swamp Bossa Nova Guitar Player - Capitol (stereo).
Love these HR albums on Capitol. I have most of them now.
I had "Solid Ground" on RCA, and while I thought it had its moments, the arrangements overall really didn't grab me. I ended up burning an exotic sounding number onto a CD-R though before I unloaded it.
These days I'm more interested in arrangers than individual instrumentalists. Among my favorites - and I know I'm leaving out some:
Andre Hodeir
Ellington/Strahhorn
Chico O'Farrill
Lalo Schifrin
Pete Rugolo
Oliver Nelson
The guys known as Quincy Jones
Gerald Wilson
Michel Legrand
Les Baxter
Henry Mancini
Neal Hefti
Clare Fischer
Don Sebeskey
Claus Ogerman
Deodato
In other news, there is still a record label called "Blue Note." I just thought it was a logo owned by Capitol/EMI.
No wonder they had to lay people off.
THE GREATEST ALBUM EVER MADE.
The Latin Jazz All Stars - Jazz Heat, Bongo Beat - Crown (stereo)
With Buddy Collette, Eddie Cano, Tommy Tedesco, Larry Bunker, and others.
Dimitri Tiomkin - Rhapsody of Steel - US Steel Records and Tapes (mono).
Soundtrack for an industrial film with some nice orchestral happy housewife music and and a touch of futuristic outer space exotica. I live for records like this.
