  1. Here's one that makes me sick: "respect for the tradition."
  2. MJQ - Patterns - UA mono. Later issued on a Blue Note CD as "Odds Against Tomorrow," the title of the film for which the music was composed. Much as I dig vinyl, here's an example of the CD sounding much better than the LP.
  3. Cal Tjader - Guarabe - Fantasy. With Clare Fischer on piano.
  4. Una Noche Excitante con TITO RODRIGUEZ! Lynn (mono).
  5. Ramsey Lewis - Goin' Latin - Cadet mono.
  6. Reissue or original??????
  7. That's a real gem. I never heard an album by him I didn't like. Saw him live circa 1980. What a concert.
  8. I have both of those Dorothy Ashby albums and love them both. It's been a while since I've spun that Eric Dolphy/Latin Jazz Quintet album but I remember liking it alot.
  9. Can we please get beyond the letter "O" and be grateful that Sandi is posting here?
  10. Why should I pardon them? There is more to read in one lifetime than there is time to read it. Sorry.
  11. Too bad she missed Super Tuesday. Can she still rack up enough delagates to clinch the nomination?
  12. Someplace, I have/had a sealed copy of one of their Columbia albums, but I've either misfiled it or unloaded it during a vinyl purge. Grrrrrr... Any ideas where I should look?
  13. I'm sick of seeing the words "kitsch" and "kitschy" get completely misused by reviewers.
  14. Be patient. Pretty soon, they will perfect the 33 1/3 rpm album, and you'll only have to flip it over once. Ain't technology grand?
  15. "Odyssey and Oracle" is such a GREAT album. Oh, wait...
  16. Who knew he was still alive all these years?
  17. Eula, I'm glad you're posting on Organissimo.
  18. Which one did you get?
  19. Orff - Carmina Burana (Stokowski/Houston Symphony) Angel stereo Deceptively crackly pressing despite the clean looking vinyl. Nothing like Capitol pressings from the 1970s.
  20. TTK, I'm pretty sure I have used the word "dark" more than once. Can you think of a better word that means the same thing? No, and let me know if you can. I catch myself using it from time to time and blush.
  21. I have that Legrand box. I would also recommend the single disc Legrand volume (with the same cover art) focusing on his French new wave scores. Some of the main themes are on the box set, but lots more that is not.
  22. If ithe Dexter Gordon is different from the Blue Note album of the same title, then I do not. I'm really interested in nervous, angular, longhair stuff.
  23. I now have the following Andre Hodeir discs: No. 70, Le Jazz Groupe de Paris joue Andre Hodeir No. 97, Jazz & Jazz. No. 39, Kenny Clarke's Sextet plays Andre Hodeir Also, I have all five volumes of "Jazz & Cinema," which includes some Hodeir stuff. How does the Vogue Sessions Collection compare to the three discs in the "Jazz in Paris" series? I especially like "Jazz & Jazz" but am totally digging all three.
  24. "Muscular." "Impressive chops." "Dark." More to come. Feel free to add to the list.
