  1. My computer at work remembers my login, but not my computer at home. I don't remember my password, and clicked the "login problems" link a few times to retrieve my password. I haven't gotten a response. Because I only spin vinyl at home, naturally, I guess this means that I'll no longer be able to contribute to "What Vinyl Are You Spinning."
  2. This was the part I liked, after he found the first 78: The peacock seemed to be strutting, as if it were alive. The room felt oppressive. The dust hung in the air like some hallucinatory fog.
  3. Those kinds of institutional collections in the US tend to stay boxed up for decades, and no one benefits.
  4. OOOOH, will there be any Umiliani or Piccioni in that haul?
  5. Here is the story about Joe Bussard finding the Black Patti 78s. The story is toward the top of the article, but the whole thing is fascinating.
  6. The issue on the Up Front label has 6 tracks. The Trip issue has 8 tracks. Was it ever out before Trip? That was a budget label related to Springboard, wasn't it?
  7. I like Jungle Soul.
  8. You mean they trimmed it down to a quintet? Yeah, an 18 man quintet as opposed to the the 19 piece sextet listed above!
  9. There are also at least 2 issues of the LP, one of which is abridged.
  10. When I was a teenager with zero disposable income, I found the Byrds reunion album on Asylum in a cutout bin for 25 cents. This album, from the early 70s, had the five original Byrds. "How bad can it be for a quarter?" I thought. (The beards and cowboy gear on the cover were clues I chose to ignore). Well, the album was so bad, I actually brought it back, claimed it was defective, and got my 25 cents back.
  11. Just listened. What a gem. I thank the gods that albums like this were recorded.
  12. Never seen anyone under the age of 70 go into one of those places. Always these corny old guys in their crayola red sports jackets. Wonder if they got out alive...
  13. I've got that one and paid a buck or two for it. You'll like it.
  14. No such thing as too much Brasilian music.
  15. I thought you knew a thing or two about jazz...
  16. Like faded flowers Life can't mean anything When your CD goes wrong...
  17. In Somerville, MA, there is a funeral home that bears an uncanny resemblance to a Bob Evans restaurant.

  19. I think many of his 60s soundtracks rank up there with Lalo, Oliver, etc., but they're not part of this box.
  20. Here's to you! Thanks for all the great music.
  21. Originals of Q's Mercury albums pop up frequently and they're not expensive.
